Myosin II regulatory light chain (RLC) phosphorylation by Ca(2+)/calmodulin (CaM)-dependent myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) is implicated in many cellular actin cytoskeletal functions. We examined MLCK activation quantitatively with a fluorescent biosensor MLCK where Ca(2+)-dependent increases in kinase activity were coincident with decreases in fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) in vitro. In cells stably transfected with CaM sensor MLCK, increasing [Ca(2+)](i) increased MLCK activation and RLC phosphorylation coincidently. There was no evidence for CaM binding but not activating MLCK at low [Ca(2+)](i). At saturating [Ca(2+)](i) MLCK was not fully activated probably due to limited availability of cellular Ca(2+)/CaM.

Formamidine lead iodide (FAPbI) quantum dots (QDs) have attracted great attention as a new generation of photovoltaic material due to their long carrier diffusion length, benign ambient stability, and light-harvesting ability. However, its large surface area with inherent thermodynamic instability and highly defective ionic termination are still major obstacles to fabricating high-performance devices. Herein, a metallic ion dopant is developed to post-treat FAPbI QDs immediately after their fabrication by using a metal-glutamate salt solution.

Multiple myeloma (MM) is a haematological neoplasm of mature B-cell lineage origin. It is characterized by abnormal clonal proliferation of plasma cells and presence of monoclonal protein in serum and / or urine. This study was conducted to observe the International Staging System (ISS) status and trends of relapse.

Fast-charging metal-ion batteries are essential for advancing energy storage technologies, but their performance is often limited by the high activation energy (E) required for ion diffusion in solids. Addressing this challenge has been particularly difficult for multivalent ions like Zn. Here, we present an amorphous organic-hybrid vanadium oxide (AOH-VO), featuring one-dimensional chains arranged in a disordered structure with atomic/molecular-level pores for promoting hierarchical ion diffusion pathways and reducing Zn interactions with the solid skeleton.

Gel electrolytes have emerged as a promising solution for enhancing the performance of zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs), particularly in flexible devices. However, they face challenges such as low-temperature inefficiency, constrained ionic conductivity, and poor mechanical strength. To address these issues, this study presents a novel PAMCD gel electrolyte with tunable freezing point and mechanical properties for ZIBs, blending the high ionic conductivity of polyacrylamide with the anion interaction capability of β-cyclodextrin.

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease that affects the central nervous system. One of its manifestations is cognitive impairment (CI), which can negatively affect the quality of life in people with MS (pwMS). This study aimed to investigate the nature of CI in MS and its associations with various disease characteristics.
