A new asymmetric synthesis of alpha-amino acids is described in which the key step is the highly diastereoselective addition of organolithium carboxyl synthons (2-furyllithium, phenyllithium, vinyllithium) to (R)- and (S)-O-(1-phenylbutyl) oximes to give hydroxylamines, with vinyllithium being the most satisfactory nucleophilic reagent. Subsequent reductive cleavage of the N-O bond in hydroxylamines, followed by N-protection, and oxidative cleavage of the carboxyl precursor gave a range of N-protected amino acids and esters. The method was exemplified by the synthesis of a range of derivatives of non-proteinogenic amino acids such as 4-bromophenylalanine, tert-leucine, norvaline, cyclohexyl- and aryl-glycines, 2-amino-8-oxodecanoic acid (Aoda) and alpha-methylvaline.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify whether the ratio of the vertebral Hounsfield unit to serum pentosidine (H/P ratio), which reflects bone density and quality, can predict screw loosening after spinal fusion surgery.
Methods: A retrospective case-control study was conducted in 35 patients (mean age 71 ± 10.4 years, 18 men) who underwent spinal interbody fusion for lumbar spine disease between June 2020 and February 2022.

Background: L-arginine (Arg) is a semi-essential amino acid that can be used as a key mediator for the release of growth hormone (GH), insulin-like growth factor-1(IGF-1), and other growth factors. In this study, we comprehensively evaluated the effect of Arg intake on bone growth and associated markers.
Methods: The study involved 24 Sprague-Dawley rats (12 males, 12 females) divided into two groups (Age = 24 days).

Objectives: To explore the neuroprotective mechanism of electroacupuncture at the acupoints and in rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (IR) injury.
Methods: Forty-eight male SD rats were equally randomized into sham operation group, cerebral IR model group, acupoint electroacupuncture group and non-acupoint acupuncture group. In the latter 3 groups, cerebral focal ischemic injury was induced using the Longa method; in the two electroacupuncture groups, electroacupuncture was performed either at the acupoints and or at non-acupoint sites for 7 days.

The objective of this experiment was to estimate the bioavailability (BA) of rumen-protected (RP) His, RPLys, and 2 RPMet products using 3 in vivo methods: area under the curve (AUC), plasma dose-response (PDR), and fecal free AA (FFAA) methods. We used 8 rumen-cannulated cows in a replicated 4 × 4 Latin square experiment with 16-d periods. Treatments were (1) abomasal infusion of water (control), (2) abomasal infusion of free His, Lys, and Met (FAA), (3) administration of RPHis + RPLys + RPMet1 (rumen-protected methionine protected with ethyl cellulose; RPAA1), and (4) administration of RPHis + RPLys + RPMet2 (rumen-protected methionine protected with a pH-sensitive polymer; RPAA2).

T9 cells are implicated in allergic skin inflammation and depend on the transcription factor PPAR-γ for full effector function. In this study, we uncovered a role for PPAR-γ in the amino acid metabolism of human T9 cells. In in-vitro-primed T9 cells, PPAR-γ expression positively correlated with the expression of SLC7A8, which encodes LAT2, a transporter of large neutral amino acids, including cystine.
