A 12-year-old girl presented with Kasabach-Meritte syndrome associated with anterior mediastinal hemangioma. 111In-oxine-labeled platelet scintigraphy and 99mTc-HSA-D scintigraphy were very useful for the diagnosis and evaluation of this condition.

Platelet scintigraphy in the diagnosis of arteriosclerosis obliterans.

Surg Today

February 2003

Department of Surgery, Division II, Kobe University School of Medicine, 7-5-2 Kusunoki-cho, Chuo-ku, Kobe, Hyogo 650-0017, Japan.

Purpose: We evaluated the efficacy of platelet scintigraphy using autologous platelets labeled with 111In-oxine, to assess the degree of arteriosclerotic activity in arteriosclerosis obliterans (ASO).

Methods: Thirty-three patients with clinical signs of ASO, seen between January 1996 and August 1999, were enrolled in this study. Scintigraphic imaging results were compared with the findings of contrast angiography in 26 patients, 17 of whom were taking antiplatelet and/or anticoagulant drugs during the platelet imaging study.

Evaluation of thrombogenicity of fluoropassivated polyester patches following carotid endarterectomy.

Ann Vasc Surg

November 2001

Vascular Surgery Unit, Department of Surgery, Ospedale Maggiore CA Pizzardi, Largo B Nigrisoli, 2, 40133 Bologna, Italy.

The use of a patch after carotid endarterectomy (CE) is recommended to reduce the incidence of restenosis. Most studies on this subject report the implantation of saphenous vein or PTFE patches, because polyester has always been considered to be a thrombogenic material. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the thrombogenicity of a knitted polyester patch passivated by fluoropolymer surface treatment (FPD patch), which experimental studies have demonstrated to be less thrombogenic than other materials.

Complications associated with the vascular access for hemodialysis represent one of the most important causes of morbidity among patients with renal replacement therapy. Early detection of arteriovenous fistula (AVF) dysfunction is of great interest. We present the case of a 70 year old woman who underwent 111In-oxine-labeled-platelet scintigraphy to evaluate thrombogenicity at 3 weeks and 3 months after surgery of a new AVF.

Prevention of pulmonary thromboembolism by NCX 4016, a nitric oxide-releasing aspirin.

Eur J Pharmacol

May 2000

Institute of Internal and Vascular Medicine, University of Perugia, Via E. dal Pozzo, I-06126, Perugia, Italy.

We studied the antithrombotic activity of 2-acetoxybenzoate 2-[1-nitroxy-methyl]-phenyl ester (NCX 4016), a novel nitric oxide (NO)-releasing aspirin derivative, in vivo in different animal models of platelet-dependent and independent pulmonary thromboembolism and compared it with that of aspirin. NCX 4016 protected mice from death induced by the intravenous (i.v.
