Neuropsychiatry, The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Parkville, VIC, Australia.
Background: The Markers in Neuropsychiatric Disorders Study (The MiND Study) is investigating the diagnostic and wider utility of blood based biomarkers such as neurofilament light chain (NfL), glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP), and phosphorylated tau (p-tau), as well as other markers, to improve timely and accurate diagnosis of dementia and distinction from non-neurodegenerative and primary psychiatric disorder (PPD). This in-progress study has expanded significantly, becoming a robust platform for Australian and international collaborations.
Methods: Participants have been recruited and blood samples collected across Australia.

Over the past three decades, non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) techniques have gained worldwide attention and demonstrated therapeutic potential in various medical fields, particularly psychiatry. The emergence of these novel techniques has led to an increased need for robust training programs to provide practitioners, whether clinicians or scientists, with the necessary skills and knowledge. In response, a comprehensive training curriculum for NIBS in psychiatry has been developed in France.

Despite the elucidation of the many processes by which a single eukaryotic cell develops into a complex mature organism, it is still puzzling to some biologists how it is that an unvarying, interconnected set of processes becomes coordinated and insulated from a stochastic universe. This article suggests that electromagnetic processes deriving from the chemistry of an organism may provide such coordination. Specifically, the author develops the pacemaker concept, the periodic, autonomous electrical signal to the entire embryo, the result of which, after each pulse, is to alter or enlarge the transcriptome to produce the next level of complexity and maturity of the organism.
