Article Abstract

We present a real implementation of a concept-based Electronic Medical Record for the management of heart failure disease. Our approach is based on GEHR archetypes represented in XML format for modelling clinical information. By using this technique it could be possible to build a interoperable future-proof clinical information system.

Article Synopsis
  • Despite the lack of a cure for osteoarthritis, researchers aimed to address mitochondrial dysfunction by developing a new treatment that uses mitochondria to deliver gene therapy via recombinant adeno-associated viral (rAAV) vectors.
  • The study demonstrated that this mitochondria/rAAV system could successfully increase the expression of insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) in human osteoarthritic chondrocytes, showing up to an 8.4-fold increase compared to controls.
  • The strategy not only improved cell proliferation and survival but also boosted the production of the extracellular matrix and enhanced mitochondrial function, indicating its potential as a promising treatment for osteoarthritis.

Purpose: This article examines teaching the consequences of harm and error to multisite prelicensure baccalaureate, second-degree baccalaureate, and graduate nursing students utilizing the RaDonda Vaught Trial as an exemplar. The Jigsaw Technique (JT) was the chosen learning strategy to empower students with knowledge and understanding through the lens of terms acquired throughout existing concept-based nursing curriculum.

Results: Nursing students evaluated the approach to this activity using both quantitative and qualitative feedback.

The structure of human memory seems to be optimized for efficient prediction, planning, and behavior. We propose that these capacities rely on a tripartite structure of memory that includes concepts, events, and contexts-three layers that constitute the mental world model. We suggest that the mechanism that critically increases adaptivity and flexibility is the tendency to contextualize.

The aim of this pilot study was to assess the compliance of breast cancer (BC) patients with fitness tracker (FT) monitoring program during radiotherapy (RT) and to characterize radiation-induced fatigue (RIF) status through objective evaluation using FT-collected parameters. Thirty-six BC patients were invited to wear FT during their RT course for continuous monitoring of heart rate (HR) and step counts (STP). RIF assessment was performed weekly, according to CTCAE v5.

Article Synopsis
  • Despite advancements in deep learning, its complex and opaque nature hinders widespread clinical adoption, prompting interest in concept-based interpretability, specifically using techniques like Testing with Concept Activation Vectors (TCAV).
  • This study applies TCAV to abnormality detection in electroencephalography (EEG), utilizing the XceptionTime model on multi-channel physiological data to enhance interpretability and analyze concepts linked to EEG pathologies.
  • The results indicate that TCAV scores align with clinical expectations, demonstrating its potential for improving interpretability in deep learning models and identifying biases in medical data.
