Transport systems of Gram-negative bacteria coordinate the passage of metabolites through the outer membrane, periplasm, and the cytoplasmic membrane without compromising the protective properties of the cell envelope. Active transporters orchestrate the import of metals against concentration gradients. These thermodynamically unfavorable processes are coupled to both an electrochemical proton gradient and the hydrolysis of ATP. Crystallographic structures of transport proteins now define in molecular detail most components of an active metal import pathway from Escherichia coli.

China has prohibited the imported waste paper (IWP) from 2021 due to environmental burdens, its reasonability was doubtful owing to lacking a comprehensive evaluation. Previous studies just assessed the potential risks caused by pollutants from the upstream processes, ignoring the actual risks from the actual production processes, especially the generated toxic pollutants (heavy metals, PCDD/Fs, PAEs and DL-PCBs). Herein, ITOPSIS-IVIKOR-GRA incorporating distance and correlation by combining grey distance, grey group utility and individual regret, was developed to prioritize the risks of four typical recycled paper production by taking potential/actual health and ecological risks as criteria.

The rapid growth of electric vehicles (EVs) in China challenges raw material demand. This study evaluates the impact of recycling and reusing EV batteries on reducing material demand and carbon emissions. Integrating a national-level vehicle stock turnover model with life-cycle carbon emission assessment, we found that replacing nickel-cobalt-manganese batteries with lithium iron phosphate batteries with battery recycling can reduce lithium, cobalt, and nickel demand between 2021 and 2060 by up to 7.

Many cancer cells exhibit increased amounts of paucimannose glycans, which are truncated N-glycan structures rarely found in mammals. Paucimannosidic proteins are proposedly generated within lysosomes and exposed on the cell surface through a yet uncertain mechanism.
