The immune system is an important evolutionary invention to battle invaders in young and old organisms. Successful aging in humans who achieve nonagenarian status and beyond depends on how the immune system changes over time. Whether certain immune parameters vary with increased age is influenced by the genotype and lifestyle of the individual.
Acute liver failure (ALF) is a life-threatening clinical syndrome characterized by high-grade inflammation and multi-organ failure. Our previous study shows that targeting the M2 isoform of pyruvate kinase (PKM2) to inhibit macrophage inflammation may be a promising strategy for ALF treatment. however, the mechanism by which PKM2 regulates the inflammatory response is unclear.
Background: We have previously developed a candidate therapeutic HPV DNA vaccine (pBI-11) encoding mycobacteria heat shock protein 70 linked to HPV16/18 E6/E7 proteins for the control of advanced HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancer (NCT05799144). While naked DNA vaccines are readily produced, stable, and well tolerated, their potency is limited by the delivery efficiency. Here we compared three different IM delivery strategies, including intramuscular (IM) injection, either with a needle alone or with electroporation at the injection site, and a needle-free injection system (NFIS), for their ability to elicit gene expression and to improve the potency of pBI-11 DNA vaccine.
Background: Intrauterine adhesion (IUA) is a common cause of clinically refractory infertility, and there exists significant heterogeneity in the treatment outcomes among IUA patients with the similar severity after transcervical resection of adhesion(TCRA). Background: Alveolar macrophages (AMs) is critical to exacerbate acute lung injury (ALI) induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) via inhibiting inflammation, which could by shifted by mesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomes (MSC-exos). But the underlying rationale is not fully clarified. Our study aimed to analyze the significance of itaconic acid (ITA) in mediating the protective effects of MSC-exos on LPS-induced ALI.
Neutrophils are short-lived cells of the innate immune system and represent 50-70% of the circulating leucocytes. Their primary role is antimicrobial defence which they accomplish through rapid migration to sites of inflammation followed by phagocytosis, degranulation and the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETosis). While previously considered terminally-differentiated cells, they have been shown to have great adaptability and to play a role in conditions ranging from cancer to autoimmunity.
