AI Article Synopsis

  • The research focuses on how cross-phase modulation impacts wavelength-division-multiplexed systems that use polarization modulation for lightwave communications.
  • Analytical formulas for calculating the Q factor penalty are developed based on factors like signal power and the number of channels.
  • The theoretical findings are validated through comparisons with numerical experiments to ensure accuracy and reliability.

Article Abstract

We investigate the effect of cross-phase modulation in wavelength-division-multiplexed polarization-modulation lightwave systems. Analytical expression for the Q factor penalty in terms of signal power, the number of channels, and other parameters are derived. The theory is compared with numerical experiments.
