A virulent strain of motile aeromonad (77-18) and an avirulent strain (78-16) differed in the contents of lipids and phospholipids, odd fatty acids, activity of hydrolytic enzymes, and amount of proteins with molecular weights of 47-56 kDa. It is assumed that proteins with molecular weights of 47-56 kDa, proteolytic enzymes active within a wide pH range, and odd fatty acids may act as pathogenicity factors. Each of these compounds or their combination determines certain stage of infection.

Camel milk is a valuable food source with unique nutritional properties and potential health benefits. This study investigated the influence of high dietary salt on milk composition and fatty acid (FA) profile as well as insulin regulation in dairy camels. Twelve multiparous female camels were used in a crossover design with two treatments: control concentrate (CON; 1.

This study investigated the fatty acids (FA) profile of 54 actinomycete strains isolated from marine sediments collected off the Portugal continental coast, specifically from the Estremadura Spur pockmarks field, by GC/MS. Fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) were prepared from the ethyl acetate lipidic extracts of these strains and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS), with FA identification performed using the NIST library. The identified FAs varied from C12:0 to C20:0, where 32 distinct FAs were identified, including 7 branched-chain fatty acids (BCFAs), 9 odd-chain fatty acids (OCFAs), 8 monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs), 6 saturated fatty acids (SFAs), 1 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA), and 1 cyclic chain fatty acid (CCFA).

Cyanobacteria are widespread, photosynthetic, gram-negative bacteria that generate numerous bioactive secondary metabolites complex biosynthetic enzymatic machinery. The model cyanobacterium sp. strain PCC 7002, hereafter referred to as PCC 7002, contains a type I polyketide synthase (PKS), termed olefin synthase (OlsWT), that synthesizes 1-nonadecene and 1,14-nonadecadiene: α-olefins that are important for growth at low temperatures.

Diet-induced milk fat depression (MFD) caused by UFA, and low fiber diets results in an increase in alternate rumen biohydrogenation intermediates. The impact of these MFD-inducing diets on milk odd and branched chain fatty acids (OBCFA) is not well known. The first objective of this study was to characterize the time course of changes in OBCFA in milk fat during induction and recovery of MFD induced with a high UFA and low fiber diet in 3 separate experiments.

Malnutrition affects over 30 million children annually and has profound immediate and enduring repercussions. Survivors often suffer lasting neurocognitive consequences that impact academic performance and socioeconomic outcomes. Mechanistic understanding of the emergence of these consequences is poorly understood.
