Recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH) injections combined with Anastrozole are increasingly used to treat adolescent idiopathic short stature (ISS), warranting further research. This study evaluated their effects on height, growth rate and adverse reactions in 72 adolescents with ISS treated at our hospital from December 2021 to December 2022. Patients were divided into a control group (rhGH alone) and a study group (rhGH + Anastrozole).

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is closely associated with the development of vascular damage in the heart. In this study, the researchers aimed to determine whether Aerobic Training (AT) and Vitamin D supplementation (Vit D) could alleviate heart complications and vascular damage caused by diabetes. The effects of an eight-week AT program and Vit D on the expression of miR-1, IGF-1 genes, and VEGF-B in the cardiomyocytes of rats with T2DM.

Are Oral Somatostatin Receptor Ligands Moving Closer to Becoming a Reality?

Clin Endocrinol (Oxf)

December 2024

Departments of Endocrinology, Leeds Centre for Diabetes & Endocrinology, Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust, Leeds, UK.

With the current therapeutic modalities available to endocrinologists, control of GH and IGF-I is now possible in almost all patients with acromegaly with multi-modality therapy. Despite biochemical control of GH and IGF-I, patients with acromegaly continue to experience impaired quality of life. Although there are likely multiple factors contributing to this dissatisfaction with current medical therapies, in particular the widely utilised injectable long-acting somatostatin receptor ligands (iSRL), is a contributor.

Apoptosis is a major driver of cell loss and infarct expansion in ischemic injuries such as acute ischemic stroke (AIS) and acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) can mitigate cell death and potentiate recovery following acute ischemic injury, but short half-life and nonspecificity limit its therapeutic potential. Scp776 is an IGF-1 fusion protein designed to target damaged tissue and promote apoptosis escape and is in clinical development as an acute therapy for AIS and AMI.
