Purpose: Acetic acid has been employed as a chemical ablation agent for liver tumors because of its superior diffusion characteristics compared with ethanol and the resulting requirement for smaller volumes and fewer injection sessions. Early tissue changes were compared after injection of acetic acid and ethanol in a rabbit model of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Materials And Methods: VX2 tumors were created in the left lobe of the liver in 11 male New Zealand White rabbits. Each animal underwent a midline minilaparotomy to expose the tumor-laden left lobe, followed by injection of 1.0 mL of 100% ethanol (n = 5) or 50% acetic acid (n = 6) with use of a 20-gauge infusion needle. Animals were killed 30 minutes after surgery; explanted livers were sectioned and examined for gross and microscopic changes.
Results: Injection of each agent produced rapid diffusion through tumor and surrounding hepatic parenchyma, with immediate protein precipitation manifested by blanching as a result of coagulation effect. The sizes of coagulation zones, expressed as mean products of the maximum perpendicular diameters of tumoral diffusion, were 13.0 cm(2) +/- 9.4 and 1.3 cm(2) +/- 1.8 for acetic acid and ethanol, respectively (P =.049). No differences in histologic changes were seen between agents.
Conclusions: In this animal model, acetic acid produced significantly larger zones of tumor coagulation compared with ethanol when injected into VX2 carcinoma in equal volumes. Further evaluation is necessary before these findings can be extrapolated to a clinical setting.

The Pd-catalyzed asymmetric hydrogenolysis rearrangement of allylic acetates using (s-Bu)3BHK has been described, achieving the synthesis of axially chiral alkylidene cycloalkanes with excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee) and a wide substrate scope (30 examples of cyclohexanes and cyclobutanes). To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time to achieve synthesis of axially chiral olefins via asymmetric hydrogenolysis of allylic acetates. This methodology not only offers a novel synthetic pathway for non-atropisomeric axially chiral structures but also highlights the potential of asymmetric hydrogenolysis as a powerful tool in synthetic organic chemistry.

In order to study the change rule of freshness and acid ions in reconstituted tobacco slurry, the content changes of 17 organic acids and 5 inorganic anions in reconstituted tobacco slurry with different residence times under confined condition were determined by on-line solid-phase extraction ion chromatography in this study. The results showed that the changes of acetic acid, nitrate ion and isovaleric acid in different reconstituted tobacco slurries with oscillation time were regular and consistent, and the trends of the changes of acetic acid, nitrate ion and isovaleric acid in different reconstituted tobacco slurries with oscillation time were correlated with each other in a highly significant way. Taking the evaluation of olfactory aroma and sensory quality qualities of reconstituted tobacco pulps with different residence times as a benchmark, it was found that the variation patterns of nitrate ions and isovaleric acid in reconstituted tobacco pulps with oscillation time were consistent with the variation patterns of olfactory and sensory qualities in the process of closed oscillation; compared with the fresh pulp, the olfactory aroma and sensory qualities of tobacco pulps had unpleasant odours appearing when the content of nitrate ions was reduced by about 48%.

This study aimed to enhance inulinase production from agricultural biomass pretreated with deep eutectic solvents (DES) using Aspergillus niger A42 (ATCC 204447). Barley husk (BH), wheat bran (WB), and oat husk (OH) were selected as substrates and were pretreated using different molar ratios of choline chloride: glycerol (ChCl: Gly) and choline chloride: acetic acid (ChCl: AA). DES pretreatment was followed by dilute sulfuric acid hydrolysis.

The introduction of structural defects can improve the charge separation efficiency of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-based photocatalysts, which however come with suboptimal decontamination performance, due to steric hindrance and limited binding capacity of the involved modulators. In this work, hydroxyl group capturing the advantages of both worlds was utilized as new modulator to improve the photocatalytic performance of Fe-based defective MOFs. Benefited from its low steric effect and strong coordination bonding capability, hydroxyl-induced defects in Fe-MOF contributed to a nearly 8-fold increase of rate constant for the photocatalytic removal of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) compared to that of pristine one, which also exceeded the defective one induced by acetic acid as modulator.
