Tropical fruits cannot be stored at low temperatures due to the chilling injury phenomena. With the goal of reducing the chilling injury, we tested 10(-4) and 10(-5) M of methyl jasmonate (MJ) treatment before the storage of red and white cultivars of guava fruits at 5 degrees C for up to 15 days plus two days at 20 degrees C. Every five days, we evaluated chilling injury index, ion leakage percentage, vitamin C, sugars, total phenols, and the activity of the enzymes lipoxygenase (LOX) and phenylalanine-ammonia lyase (PAL). We found that methyl jasmonate treatments reduce the chilling injury index and the ion leakage percentage. Furthermore, MJ did not affect vitamin C, chlorophyll, and total phenols. MJ increased sugar content, PAL, and LOX activities. We concluded that MJ reduces chilling injury and activates the fruit defense response as indicated by the behavior of total phenols and the increase in sugar content, PAL, and LOX activities.

Omental infarction is a rare cause of acute abdomen, often mimicking more common abdominal emergencies such as appendicitis and cholecystitis, presenting significant diagnostic challenges. This study investigated the mechanisms employed by exogenous dopamine application in alleviating chilling injury in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days. Our results indicated that dopamine treatment at 150 µM alleviated chilling injury in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days. By 150 µM dopamine application, higher SUMO E3 ligase (SIZ1) and target of rapamycin (TOR) genes expression accompanied by lower poly(ADP-Ribose) polymerase 1 (PARP1) and sucrose non-fermenting 1-related kinase 1 (SnRK1) genes expression was associated with higher salicylic acid, ATP, NADPH and proline accumulation in kiwifruits during storage at 1 °C for 120 days.

The Hepatorenal Syndrome-Acute Kidney Injury (HRS-AKI) patients infected with methicillin-resistant (MRSA) urgently require safe and effective treatment options due to their compromised hepatic and renal functions, as well as thrombocytopenia resulting from hypersplenism. In our case, an HRS-AKI patient who underwent continuous renal replacement therapy for fluid overload developed fever with chills. His blood tests indicated elevated C-reactive protein and neutrophils, low platelet count, and bilateral lung infiltrates.
