It was found that the inhibition and enhancement by phloroglucinol of the chemiluminescence from the luminol-K3Fe(CN)6 system were dependent on the pH of luminol solution and the concentration of phloroglucinol. In Na2CO(3)-NaHCO3 buffer, phloroglucinol exhibited strong chemiluminescent enhancement at pH 9.4. On this basis, a flow injection method was developed for the determination of phloroglucinol. The method was simple, rapid, convenient and sensitive, with a detection limit of 2.0 x 10(-9) mol/L. It is effective for determining phloroglucinol in the range of 1.0 x 10(-5)-5.0 x 10(-9) mol/L. The relative standard deviation is 1.3% within one day and 3.2% between days for the determination of 5.0 x 10(-7) mol/L phloroglucinol. The method has been successfully used to determine phloroglucinol in environmental water, with satisfactory results.

Single-atom catalysts (SACs) dispersed on support materials exhibit exceptional catalytic properties that can be fine-tuned through interactions between the single atoms and the support. However, selectively controlling the spatial location of single metal atoms while simultaneously harmonizing their coordination environment remains a significant challenge. Here, we present a phenolic-mediated interfacial anchoring (PIA) strategy to prepare SACs with Fe single atoms anchored on the surface of heteroatom-doped carbon nanospheres.

Upon exposure to salt stress, calcium signaling in plants activates various stress-responsive genes and proteins along with enhancement in antioxidant defense to eventually regulate the cellular homeostasis for reducing cytosolic sodium levels. The coordination among the calcium signaling molecules and transporters plays a crucial role in salinity tolerance. In the present study, twenty-one diverse indigenous rice genotypes were evaluated for salt tolerance during the early seedling stage, and out of that nine genotypes were further selected for physio-biochemical study.

Phenolic compounds are industrially versatile chemicals that have been successfully produced in microbial cell factories. Unfortunately, most phenolic compounds are highly toxic to cells in specific cellular environments or above a particular concentration because they form a complex with iron and promote hydroxyl radical production in Fenton reactions, resulting in the ferroptosis of cells. Here, we demonstrated that overexpression of efflux pumps and porins, including porins LamB and OmpN, and efflux pumps EmrAB, MdtABC, and SrpB, can enhance phloroglucinol (PG) tolerance by inhibiting the generation of hydroxyl radicals.

(), an edible brown alga, is rich in isophloroglucin A (IPA) phlorotannin compounds and is effective in preventing diseases, including diabetes. We evaluated its anti-glycation ability, intracellular reactive oxygen species scavenging activity, inhibitory effect on the accumulation of intracellular MGO/MGO-derived advanced glycation end products (AGE), and regulation of downstream signaling pathways related to the AGE-receptor for AGEs (RAGE) interaction. This study focuses on developing innovative and eco-friendly purification methods for the isolation of bioactive compounds derived from , a brown abundant macroalga in Djibouti. Three distinct fractions, obtained via liquid-liquid extraction (LLE_FAE), solid-phase extraction (SPE_WE50), and flash chromatography (FC_EtOH20), were selected based on their high phenolic content and antioxidant activities. All fractions were also evaluated for their anti-ageing potential by assessing their ability to inhibit two vital skin-ageing enzymes, tyrosinase and elastase.
