Perirenal extravasation of urine is a rare event in congenital uropathies, mostly observed perinatally in the case of infravesical obstruction. We describe a male infant with a primary non-refluxing obstructive left megaureter who developed an acute perirenal extravasation and ascites at the age of 4 weeks. After temporary upper urinary diversion, ureterocystoneostomy was successfully performed. Intraoperatively, the distal ureter showed an extremely narrow lumen over a distance of 3 cm. In the current literature, postnatal management of primary megaureters is preferably conservative. Our patient demonstrates an extremely rare complication demanding early surgical intervention.

A 50-year-old patient with a prior history of chronic smoking presented to the emergency department with diffuse abdominal pain, primarily localized to the right hypochondrium and epigastric region, along with nausea, but without fever, vomiting, or urinary symptoms. Laboratory tests were largely unremarkable except for isolated hematuria and a mildly elevated CRP. Given the atypical clinical presentation, a 3-phase abdominal CT scan (without contrast, portal, and delayed phases) was conducted, revealing a horseshoe kidney with an obstructing 4 mm stone at the right ureteral meatus.

Introduction: Ureteroscopy (URS) can be proposed as first-line therapy for the management of pelvic stones from 10 to 20 mm and for lower ureteric stones in children. However, little is known about the success and the morbidity of URS in young children. Ureteroscopic treatment may present matters in young children because of the small size of the pediatric kidney and the small size of the collecting system.

Department of Radiology, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, Wisconsin; Department of Biomedical Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, Wisconsin. Electronic address:

Purpose: To compare the safety and efficacy of histotripsy with cryoablation in a chronic human-scale normal porcine kidney model.

Materials And Methods: Eighteen female domestic swine were divided evenly into histotripsy and cryoablation treatment arms. A planned 2-3 cm diameter treatment was performed under ultrasound (histotripsy) or ultrasound and computed tomography (CT) guidance (cryoablation).
