The extension of the sunspot number series backward in time is of considerable interest for dynamo theory, solar, stellar, and climate research. We have used records of the (10)Be concentration in polar ice to reconstruct the average sunspot activity level for the period between the year 850 to the present. Our method uses physical models for processes connecting the (10)Be concentration with the sunspot number. The reconstruction shows reliably that the period of high solar activity during the last 60 years is unique throughout the past 1150 years. This nearly triples the time interval for which such a statement could be made previously.

Low solar irradiance reaching the canopy due to fog and heavy haze is a significant yield-limiting factor worldwide. However, how plants adapt to shade stress and the mechanisms underlying the reduction in leaf photosynthetic capacity and grain yield remain unclear. In this study (conducted during 2018-2021), we investigated the impact of light deprivation (60%) at the pre-anthesis and post-anthesis stages on leaf carboxylation efficiency, source-to-sink relationships, sucrose metabolism, and grain yield of wheat cultivars with contrasting shade tolerance.

This study demonstrates a rich complexity of the time-frequency ionospheric signal spectrum, dependent on the measurement type and platform. Different phenomena contributing to satellite-derived and ground-derived geophysical data that only selected signal bands can be potentially sensitive to seismicity over time, and they are applicable in lithosphere-atmosphere-ionosphere coupling (LAIC) studies. In this study, satellite-derived and ground-derived ionospheric observations are filtered by a Fourier-based band-pass filter, and an experimental selection of potentially sensitive frequency bands has been carried out.

Solar-driven overall conversion of CO and HO into fuels and chemicals shows an ultimate strategy for carbon neutrality yet remains a huge challenge. Herein, an integrated photocatalytic redox architecture of Zn NPs/GaN Nanowires (NWs)/Si is explored for light-driven overall conversion of CO and HO into CH and HO simultaneously without any external sacrificial agents and additives. The as-designed architecture affords a benchmark CH activity of 189 mmol g h with a high selectivity of 93.

Background: Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) have toxic potential, especially as carcinogens, neurotoxins, and endocrine disruptors. The objective of this study is to know the impact of exposure to PAHs on the reproductive health of male workers who operate in solar thermal plants.
Methods: Case-control study.
