December 2024

Department of Disability Prevention Research, China Rehabilitation Science Institute, Beijing100068, China.

Diabetic retinopathy (DR) has been reported as the leading cause of blindness among diabetic adults, which is closely related to poor quality of life and increased burden of disability. This study aimed to aggregate the optimally available evidence on modifiable risks of DR. Until June 2023, PubMed, Cochrane Library, CNKI, and Wanfang databases were used to retrieve Meta-analysis about various risk factors for DR, and Meta-analysis were analyzed and summarized.

Background: Elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Statins are the cornerstone of preventing and treating cardiovascular disease and can reduce LDL cholesterol by more than 60%. Although statins have high tolerability and safety, as the number of users increases, their adverse reactions in the liver, kidneys, skeletal muscles, and their potential to induce diabetes have also received widespread attention.

In pursuit of novel antidiabetic agents to combat type II diabetes mellitus, our study focused on identifying pharmacophoric features responsible for PPAR-γ expression, a key regulator of glucose homeostasis and lipid metabolism. This goal was achieved through pharmacophore model generation and screening of rationally designed library of thiazolidine-2,4-dione hybrids (7a-7f). The top hits were synthesized, characterized, and evaluated for their in vitro and in vivo antidiabetic activities.

In our pursuit of discovering new antidiabetic agents to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), our approach aimed to identify the bioactive feature/pharmacophore responsible for PPAR-γ expression, as it is accountable for the glucose homeostasis and lipid metabolism. This was achieved by pharmacophore model generation, screening of rationally designed newer thiazolidinedione's library, identifying synthesizing and characterizing the top ten molecules (5a-5j) for their (Invitro & invivo) antidiabetic activity. Preliminary screening of all the ligands by Invitro glucose uptake assay in L6 myotubes (skeletal muscle cell line of rats) revealed compound 5b and 5f stimulated the glucose uptake with 79.

Urgent call for attention to diabetes-associated hospital infections.

Medical Care Center, Naval Medical Center of PLA, Naval Medical University, Shanghai 200052, China.

In this editorial, we discuss the recent article by Zhao published in the which highlights the importance of recognizing the risk indicators associated with diabetes mellitus (DM). Given the severe implications of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in hospitalized individuals- such as heightened mortality rates, prolonged hospitalizations, and increased costs- we focus on elucidating the connection between DM and nosocomial infections. Diabetic patients are susceptible to pathogenic bacterial invasion and subsequent infection, with some already harboring co-infections upon admission.
