A multilayered waveguide holographic read-only memory is a promising candidate for the next generation of optical data storage systems. We improved the data density of the memory by using a multiplexing method with a set of orthogonal optical masks. We multiplexed as many as nine images into one waveguide hologram, and all the observed images had negligible cross talk. This made it possible to achieve a ninefold increase in data density. We provide experimental results for both metallic and liquid-crystal masks.

This paper presents a D-band dual linear-polarized wideband high-gain reflectarray (RA) antenna using low-temperature co-fired-ceramic (LTCC) technology. The proposed element comprises a dual-polarized magnetoelectric (ME) dipole and a multilayer slot-coupling substrate-integrated waveguide (SIW) phase-delay structure, which are organized in accordance with the receiving/reradiating (R/R) principle. The coverage of phase shifts for both orthogonal polarizations is set to be greater than 360 degrees by varying the length of the phase-delay structure.

Optical frequency comb synthesizers, operating in the harmonic regime, are metrological sources in which the emitted optical power is concentrated in a few modes, spaced by several multiples of the cavity free spectral range (FSR). This behavior reflects in a large correlation degree and, in principle, in an increased optical power per mode. In miniaturized quantum cascade lasers (QCLs), harmonic frequency combs (HFCs) are hence particularly attracting to explore quantum correlation effects between adjacent harmonic modes, enabled by the inherently large gain media third-order Kerr nonlinearity, even if controlled generation of stable HFCs of predefined order, is typically demanding in such electrically pumped sources.

Freeform quasi-3D metasurfaces (FQ3DM), which integrate freeform metasurfaces with multilayer films, is one possible solution to achieve this. However, the performance of FQ3DM is limited by the lack of inverse design algorithms capable of optimizing its overall structure.

Lithium niobate (LN) stands out as a versatile nonlinear optoelectronic material which can be directly applied in tunable modulators, filters, parametric amplifiers, and photonic integrated circuits. Recently, LN photonic crystals have garnered attention as a compelling candidate for incorporation into photonic integrated circuits, showcasing their potential in advancing the field. Photonic crystals possess a widely acknowledged capability to manipulate the transmission of light modes, similar to how nanostructures have been utilized to regulate electron-related phenomena.

The length of the bimodal section is inversely proportional to the index difference between the involved modes, which can be quite small in multimode dielectric waveguides. We propose and numerically demonstrate an ultrashort bimodal interferometer by embedding a multilayer hyperbolic metamaterial in a subwavelength gap separating two dielectric waveguides.
