Bis(2,5-dimethoxy-4-methylphenyl)methane, C(19)H(24)O(4), (IIa), was obtained and characterized as a minor product from the reaction of toluhydroquinone dimethyl ether (1,4-dimethoxy-2-methylbenzene) with N-(hydroxymethyl)trifluoroacetamide. Similarly, bis(2,5-dimethoxy-3,4,6-trimethylphenyl)methane, C(23)H(32)O(4), (IIb), was prepared from the corresponding reaction of trimethylhydroquinone dimethyl ether (2,5-dimethoxy-1,3,4-trimethylbenzene). The molecules of (IIa) and (IIb) each lie on a twofold axis passing through the methylene group. The dihedral angle between the planar phenyl rings is 73.4 (1) degrees in (IIa) and 77.9 (1) degrees in (IIb). The external bond angles around the bridging methylene group are 116.6 (2) and 117.3 (2) degrees for (IIa) and (IIb), respectively. In (IIa), the methoxy substituents lie in the plane of the ring and are conjugated with the aromatic system, whereas in (IIb), they are almost perpendicular to the phenyl ring and are positioned on opposite sides.

Infections of multidrug-resistant pathogens including Pseudomonas aeruginosa, cause a high risk of mortality in immunocompromised patients and underscore the need for novel natural antibacterial drugs. In this study, common phytochemicals prevalent in fruits and vegetables have been demonstrated for their ability to inhibit quorum sensing (QS) in Pseudomonas aeruginosa PAO1 (PA). Ten compounds were screened virtually by molecular docking, among which, daidzein dimethyl ether originally from Albizzia lebbeck showed the most significant inhibitory effect on the formation of biofilm and the accumulation of virulence factors, including elastase, pyocyanin and rhamnolipid in PA.

This work deals with the design of nanocomposite hydrogenation-dehydration bifunctional catalysts for the one-pot conversion of CO2 to dimethyl ether (DME), focusing on obtaining a high and homogeneous dispersion of a Cu-based CO2 hydrogenation phase into the pores of mesostructured supports. Particularly, three aluminosilicate mesostructured acid catalysts with catalytic activity towards methanol dehydration and featuring different porous structures (Al-MCM-41, Al-SBA-15, Al-SBA-16) were synthesized and used as supports to host a CuO/ZnO/ZrO2 (CZZ) CO2 hydrogenation catalyst for methanol synthesis. The use of a mesostructured support allows to maximize the exposed surface of the CO2 reduction function by nanostructuring it through its confinement within the mesochannels, thus obtaining nanocomposite bifunctional catalysts with an ultra-small hydrogenation nanophase.

Dimethyl ether (DME) is a versatile molecule, gaining increasing interest as a viable hydrogen and energy storage solution, pivotal for the transitioning from fossil fuels to environmentally friendly and sustainable energy supply. This research explores a novel approach for the direct conversion of CO to DME in a fixed-bed reactor, combining the Cu/ZnO/AlO methanol synthesis catalyst with supported heteropolyacids (HPAs). First, various HPAs, both commercially available and custom-synthesized, were immobilized on Montmorillonite K10.
