Leptospirosis has a broad spectrum of clinical manifestations varying, from inapparent influenza like illness to fulminant fatal disease with hepato-renal dysfunction and hemorrhagic phenomena. Our cases had fever, puffiness, respiratory distress and bleeding diathesis as leading manifestations. Leptospirosis was suspected in view of epidemic situation prevailing in the city. We report four cases here, three of which survived and one died.

Objective: To identify clusters of high and low risk for the occurrence of leptospirosis in space and space-time in Acre, between 2001 and 2022, as well as to characterize temporal trends and epidemiological profiles of the disease in the state.
Methods: An ecological study of cases mandatorily reported by health services in Brazil. For the analysis of clusters in space and space-time, the SaTScan software was used, which calculated the relative risks (RR).

Little is known about the epidemiology of leptospirosis in the Dominican Republic, the second most populous country in the Caribbean. We report on findings from a multi-stage household survey across two regions in the country that reveals a previously under-estimated burden of human Leptospira infection. Our findings, based on the reference-standard microscopic agglutination test, indicate a complex picture of serogroup diversity, spatial heterogeneity in infection and risk, and a marked discrepancy between reported cases and serologically estimated infections.
