The characteristics of the very rare non-treatment-related chronic myeloid leukemia (nTr-CML) cases have never before been analyzed. The literature up to December 2002 was screened using the Medline database to identify cases of Tr-CML and nTr-CML. We considered five cases with nTr-CML identified among 270 newly diagnosed CML at our Department. Our report thus considers nine cases with nTr-CML compared to 77 affected by Tr-CML as a secondary neoplasm. The median age at the appearance of the first tumor was higher in nTr-CML patients compared to that of the Tr-CML group (P<0.0001). The median age at CML diagnosis was significantly higher in the nTr-CML than in the Tr-CML group (P<0.0001). The proportion of hematological malignancies as first tumor type was not different in the two groups (44% in nTr-CML versus 56% in Tr-CML). Our study underlines that nTr-CML as a second malignancy is a rare entity associated with elderly age.

Introduction: Given the projected rise in the incidence of cancer treatment-related conditions, such as lymphoedema, and the limited research on lymphoedema in cancers with poor prognoses, there is a need for a better understanding of cancer-related lymphoedema incidence and associated risk factors across all types of cancers. The objectives of this review are (1) to produce a resource on an open-access platform that facilitates continuous update of incidence estimates and risk factors as evidence emerges, (2) to provide the most up-to-date estimate of the incidence of cancer-related lymphoedema and (3) to evaluate the strength and consistency of the association between lymphoedema and cancer treatment and non-treatment-related risk factors.

Methods And Analysis: A living systematic and grey literature search will be conducted to identify studies reporting the incidence, prevalence of lymphoedema or associated risk factors in individuals who have undergone treatment for any type of cancer.

Efficacy and Safety of Ombitasvir/Paritaprevir/Ritonavir Plus Dasabuvir in Treating HCV Genotypes 1 and 4 in Patients with Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease.

J Pharm Bioallied Sci

July 2024

Department of Medicine, Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, College of Medicine, Qassim University, Buraydah, Saudi Arabia.

This study assessed the efficacy and safety of ombitasvir/paritaprevir/ritonavir (OBV/PTV/r) combined with dasabuvir (DSV) for treating hepatitis C genotype 4 (GT4) and genotype 1 (GT1) in patients with stage 4 or 5 chronic kidney disease (CKD). Among 88 patients, including treatment-naïve and Peginterferon/Ribavirin (RBV)-experienced, treated with OBV/PTV/r±RBV (dosed between 200 mg per week to daily) and additional DSV for GT1, 94.3% achieved sustained virologic response at 12 weeks (SVR12), demonstrating high efficacy.

Background: Hypomethylating agents are approved in higher-riskmyelodysplastic syndromes. The combination of a hypomethylating agent with venetoclax is standard of care in acute myeloid leukaemia. We investigated the safety and activity of the first totally oral combination of decitabine plus cedazuridine and venetoclax in patients with higher-risk-myelodysplastic syndromes and chronic myelomonocytic leukaemia.

Ibrutinib in Steroid-Refractory Chronic Graft-versus-Host Disease, a Single-Center Experience.

Transplant Cell Ther

December 2021

Division of Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Massachusetts. Electronic address:

Chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) is a leading cause of late morbidity and mortality after allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Corticosteroid-based therapies are a mainstay of its initial treatment but there is no consensus in how to treat steroid-refractory cGVHD. Ibrutinib is a Bruton tyrosine kinase and IL-2-inducible kinase inhibitor thought to affect pathways driving cGVHD, and it was approved for the treatment of refractory cGVHD by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in August 2017 after a landmark phase 1b/2 study.

Electroacupuncture vs Prucalopride for Severe Chronic Constipation: A Multicenter, Randomized, Controlled, Noninferiority Trial.

Am J Gastroenterol

May 2021

Department of Acupuncture and Moxibustion, Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, China.

Introduction: This multicenter, randomized, noninferiority trial compared electroacupuncture with prucalopride for the treatment of severe chronic constipation (SCC).

Methods: Participants with SCC (≤ 2 mean weekly complete spontaneous bowel movements [CSBMs]) were randomly assigned to receive either 28-session electroacupuncture over 8 weeks with follow-up without treatment over 24 weeks or prucalopride (2 mg/d before breakfast) over 32 weeks. The primary outcome was the proportion of participants with ≥3 mean weekly CSBMs over weeks 3-8, based on the modified intention-to-treat population, with -10% as the noninferior margin.
