In the in vitro experiments with hydrobiont Daphnia magna Straus as the test-object the comparative evaluation of the prooxydant activity of two neuroleptics galoperidol and aminazine, was performed. It was shown that galoperidol possesses the pronounced prooxydant activity compared with hydrogen peroxyde. Aminazine didn't display such an action. The exogenios reduced glutathione is capable to protect Daphnia from the prooxydant action of galoperidol may be used for the investigation of anti- and prooxydant effects of toxicants and medicines in vivo.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of pineal gland functional state on the prooxydant processes and antioxidant system in the gingival tissues. Male rats were assigned into one of the following groups in accordance with the duration of photoperiod: 1) control--natural daylight; 2) permanent darkness for 14 days; 3) permanent light for 14 days. The following parameters were measured in gingival tissues and the blood serum: 1) prooxidant factors (dieneconjugates--DC and malonic dialdehyde--MD); 2) antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase--SOD and catalase).

Intraplaque hemorrhages are mainly related to inward neoangiogenesis, initiated from the adventitia by lipid-dependent outwardly convected signals, and by the immaturity of these neovessels, allowing leaks and hemorrhages. Repeated intraplaque hemorrhages play a major role in the evolution of thrombotic occlusive disease, similar to the role of intraluminal thrombus in the progression of abdominal aortic aneurysm toward rupture. Red blood cells (RBCs) are an important source of unesterified cholesterol, because their membranes are particularly cholesterol rich.

Flavonoids are polyphenols derivatives of plant origin that possesses a broad range of pharmacological properties, including protection of cells and tissues against the deleterious effects of reactive oxygen species. Their antioxidant activity results from scavenging of free radicals and other oxidizing intermediates, from the chelation of iron or copper ions and from inhibition of oxidases. But a number of studies have found both anti and prooxidant effects for many of these compounds.
