Free radical generating compounds have been shown to enhance the malignant conversion of papillomas to carcinomas in mouse skin, and iron has been shown to participate in free radical generating reactions. In the present study, we investigated whether iron can play a role in the malignant conversion of papillomas to carcinomas. Skin tumors were chemically induced in female Swiss albino mice using a standard two-stage initiation-promotion protocol. Topical application of 12- O-tetradecanoyl phorbol 13-acetate (TPA), benzoyl peroxide (BPO), H(2)O(2) and cumene hydroperoxide (COOH) to these tumor-bearing mice increased the rate of malignant conversion. To evaluate the effect of iron-overload on the conversion of benign skin papillomas to carcinomas, the animals were pre-treated with 1.0 mg Fe per mouse for 15 days before they received TPA or free radical generating compounds. The number of carcinomas and the percent incidence of carcinomas were recorded weekly. The rate of malignant conversion was higher in iron-overloaded mice as compared with non-iron-overloaded mice. To evaluate the long-term clinical outcomes of iodine-125 low dose-rate brachytherapy (LDR-BT)-based treatment approaches for ≤ cT3 prostate cancer (PC) patients in China, as well as the effects on the PC immune microenvironment. Data was retrospectively collected from 237 patients with ≤ cT3 PC who were treated with radical prostatectomy (RP) or LDR-BT alone or in combination with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT), and biochemical progression-free survival (bPFS), prostate cancer-specific survival (PCSS) and overall survival (OS) rates were compared. In 63 cases, PC patients received RP after biopsy, received at least 6 months of ADT before RP, or received LDR-BT and deferred limited transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP).

Background: Complex surgery during initial cancer treatment can limit surgical options when planning management of a secondary malignancy. Subtotal esophagectomy and pancreatoduodenectomy are the most invasive and difficult procedures in gastroenterological surgery. Surgical cases in which subtotal esophagectomy was performed after pancreatoduodenectomy with pancreaticogastrostomy are extremely rare and challenging procedures due to the resulting complicated anatomical changes.

Methods: This multicenter, retrospective, matched cohort study enrolled patients with colorectal cancer undergoing laparoscopic surgery in seven tertiary referral hospitals from January 2021 to October 2022. A 1:1 propensity score matching was performed between the articulating (Arti-LAP) and conventional (Rigid-LAP) laparoscopic groups.
