Purpose: To investigate changes of spherical aberration in eyes with accommodative spasm.

Design: Case reports.

Methods: Four eyes of two patients with accommodative spasm were studied. Ocular spherical aberration was measured with a Hartmann-Shack wavefront aberrometer for the central 4-mm zone.

Results: The root mean square values of spherical aberration were negative (-0.086 +/- 0.026 microm root mean square). However, when the spasm of accommodation was cured or treated with a cycloplegic agent, the value shifted toward positivity (0.025 +/- 0.004 microm root mean square).

Conclusions: Excessive accommodative tone is manifested objectively by negative spherical aberration in eyes with accommodative spasm.

Clinical Relevance: Horizontal rectus muscle surgeries may cause changes in corneal and anterior segment parameters. Corneal topography is an important device for identifying these alterations.

Background: The aim of this work is to evaluate the effects of horizontal rectus muscle surgeries on corneal topography, anterior chamber parameters and corneal wavefront aberrations.

A Comparative Analysis of the Effects of Misaligning Different Trifocal Intraocular Lenses.

J Clin Med

December 2024

The David J Apple Center for Vision Research, Department of Ophthalmology, Heidelberg University Eye Clinic, University Hospital Heidelberg, Im Neuenheimer Feld 400, 69120 Heidelberg, Germany.

This laboratory study aims to assess the effects of misaligning different trifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) under varying spectral and corneal spherical aberration (SA) conditions. With an IOL metrology device under monochromatic and polychromatic conditions, the following models were studied: AT ELANA 841P, AT LISA Tri 839MP, FineVision HP POD F, Acrysof IQ PanOptix, and Tecnis Synergy ZFR00V. The SA was simulated using an aberration-free and average-SA cornea.

We aimed to synthesize silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using (cardamom) extracts and assess the cytotoxicity and genotoxicity of the cardamom extract, -AgNPs, and the insecticide ATCBRA-commonly used for pest control-on the root system of (broad bean). The chemical composition of the aqueous cardamom extract was identified and quantified using GC-MS, revealing a variety of bioactive compounds also present in cardamom essential oil. These included α-terpinyl acetate (21.

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical outcome of laser-assisted surgical correction of high hyperopic or mixed astigmatism using small incision intrastromal lenticule rotation (SMILERO) alone or combined with photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).

Methods: This retrospective case series enrolled 25 eyes with high astigmatism that underwent SMILERO surgery. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), manifest refraction, central corneal thickness, and corneal higher order aberrations were analyzed before surgery and after 3, 6, and 12 months of follow-up.

Purpose: To compare the clinical outcomes, surgical workflow, and patient satisfaction following small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) performed with the VisuMax 800 in one eye and the VisuMax 500 in the contralateral eye (both Carl Zeiss Meditec).

Methods: This was a prospective, single-site clinical study of patients undergoing SMILE for myopia and myopic astigmatism between February 2022 and August 2023. Each patient underwent bilateral treatment using the VisuMax 800 (VM800 group) in one eye and the VisuMax 500 (VM500 group) in the contralateral eye.
