Arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD) is a form of cardiomyopathy characterized by fibrofatty infiltration of the right ventricle that leads to cardiac arrhythmias, usually sustained ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation. ARVD typically becomes recognized in young adults. The authors report a case of an octogenarian in whom third-degree atrioventricular block, low cardiac output syndrome, and failure to capture the pacer stimuli developed. ARVD was diagnosed at autopsy based on fibrofatty replacement of the right ventricle. To date, this case represents the oldest patient ever diagnosed with ARVD reported in the literature.

Background: Truncating titin variants (TTNtvs) are the most prevalent cause of inherited dilated cardiomyopathy. Occurrence of different ventricular arrhythmia (VA) subtypes, including premature ventricular complexes (PVCs), nonsustained ventricular tachycardia (NSVT), and sustained monomorphic VT (SMVT), has been reported.
Objectives: The aim of this study was to analyze the prognostic relevance of distinct VA subtypes among TTNtv carriers and their underlying arrhythmogenic substrates.

Advances in cardiac magnetic resonance have promoted tissue characterization with high spatial and contrast resolution, and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) sequences have improved the detection of myocardial fibrosis. The distribution pattern of LGE facilitates differentiation between ischemic and nonischemic etiologies and aids in refining diagnoses within nonischemic cardiomyopathies, suggesting specific etiological factors. A distinctive nonischemic LGE pattern that has recently gained prominence is the ring-like pattern, defined as a subepicardial or mid-wall circumferential or semi-circumferential enhancement, which involves at least three contiguous segments within the same short-axis slice.

Females exhibit longer QT intervals and a higher risk of Long QT Syndrome (LQTS) associated arrhythmogenesis compared to males. While several studies suggest these sex disparities result from the effect of sex hormones on cardiac ion channels, the underlying mechanisms remain incompletely understood. This research investigates the arrhythmogenic effects, sex-specific risk, and mechanisms associated with LQTS linked to either to loss-of-function of the rapidly activating delayed rectifier K current (I), or gain-of-function of the L-type Ca current (I).

Acute heart failure (AHF) is a complex clinical syndrome characterized by the rapid or gradual onset of symptoms and/or signs of heart failure (HF), leading to an unplanned hospital admission or an emergency department visit. AHF is the leading cause of hospitalization in patients over 65 years, thus significantly impacting public health care. However, its prognosis remains poor with high rates of mortality and rehospitalization.

Cardiac disease is a common cause of mortality in many primates housed in zoological settings. At the Bronx Zoo, between 2007 and 2018, there were ten incidences of sudden cardiac death in adult male geladas (), none of which showed premonitory signs. Due to concerns of occult cardiac disease and fatal arrhythmogenic events, complete cardiac examinations were performed in three clinically normal, adult male geladas.
