The appearance of the substantia nigra (SN) can aid diagnosis of Parkinson's disease (PD). The effect of age and sex on the appearance of nigrosome-1 (SN subregion) on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and the relationship between nigrosome-1 (viewed with MRI) and SN echogenicity (viewed with transcranial ultrasound) is unknown. The study aimed to address these knowledge gaps.

Hydrocephalus is an imprecise term and refers to the imbalance of brain parenchyma and cerebral spinal fluid in the cranial vault. Ventriculomegaly, or enlargement of the ventricular system, is often the more precise term and is therefore preferred. Appropriate imaging and measurement techniques are critical to detect ventriculomegaly and grade its severity.

Background: Referred to as the "forgotten chamber," the right ventricle (RV) is now widely acknowledged as a significant factor, particularly in certain cardiovascular pathologies. Despite historically being undervalued in comparison to the left ventricle, the RV function is deemed crucial in determining patient outcomes following mitral valve (MV) surgery. In the context of MV surgery, it is important to note that the RV is highly susceptible to dysfunction before, during, and after the surgical procedure.

MRE measures, such as stiffness, have been shown to be sensitive to changes in brain health with aging and neurodegeneration. Here we used MRE to characterize differences in brain mechanical properties between individuals with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI) and cognitively unimpaired subjects (CU).

Background: The relationships of left atrial (LA) dysfunction with cognition are poorly understood. We investigated the associations of LA function with cognitive impairment, etiologic-subtype (neurodegenerative vs. vascular[VCI]), neuroimaging markers of cerebrovascular disease (CeVD) and circulating biomarkers, in subjects without AF.
