Vascular endothelium releases vasocontracting and/or vasorelaxing substances. Here, we report the diversity of endothelium-derived vasocontracting factors (EDCFs), arachidonic acid metabolites, and discuss the pathophysiological significance. In the canine basilar artery and the rabbit intrapulmonary artery, acetylcholine-induced contractions (ACh-induced EDC) are due to endothelial thromboxane A2 (TXA2) (TXA2-type). The ACh-induced EDC in the rabbit coronary artery is due to endothelial leukotrienes (LTs) (LTs-type). In addition, in the rat coronary artery, nicotine and noradrenaline (NAd)-induced EDCs are due to endothelial COX-metabolites (COX metabolite-type). These arachidonic acid metabolites derived from endothelium (activation by vasoactive substances including ACh, NAd and nicotine) cause a contraction of vascular smooth muscle cells and may disturb the local circulation. These EDCFs (TXA2, LTs and COX-metabolites) may be involved in the pathophysiology of cardiovascular immuno-inflammatory diseases.

Given the widespread industrial and domestic use of probiotic blends based on combinations of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) and yeasts to produce fermented foods or beverages that are supposed to provide health benefits, this study aimed to generate knowledge and concepts on biologically relevant activities, metabolism and metabolic interactions in yeast/LAB communities. For this, the postbiotic capabilities of three probiotic candidates, including two lactic acid bacteria (i.e.

Atemoya fruit deteriorates rapidly during post-harvest storage. A complete understanding of the metabolic mechanisms underlying this process is crucial for developing effective preservation strategies. Metabolomic approaches combined with machine learning offer new opportunities to identify quality-related biomarkers.

This study investigates the metabolic disruptions caused by nicotine (NIC) exposure, with a particular focus on amino acid and lipid metabolism, and evaluates resveratrol (RSV) as a potential protective agent. Mice were divided into four groups: control (CON), NIC-exposed, NIC + RSV-treated, and RSV-only. NIC exposure resulted in significant weight loss, elevated glucose levels, altered lipid profiles, and organ damage, particularly in the liver and kidneys.

Tumor cells must optimize metabolite acquisition between synthesis and uptake from a microenvironment characterized by hypoxia, lactate accumulation, and depletion of many amino acids, including arginine. We performed a metabolism-focused functional screen using CRISPR-Cas9 to identify pathways and factors that enable tumor growth in an arginine-depleted environment. Our screen identified the SLC-family transporter SLC7A5 as required for growth, and we hypothesized that this protein functions as a high-affinity citrulline transporter.

(Aristolochiaceae), commonly known as the Brazilian Dutchman's pipe, is cultivated globally as an ornamental vine, admired for the unique shape of its large flowers. In our ongoing research into the chemical composition of , the ethanol extract from its seeds was fractionated using chromatographic techniques, resulting in the isolation and identification of allantoin, along with the lignans kobusin, eudesmin, and methylarctigenin. The fractions were further analysed by NMR and GC - EI/MS, employing a molecular networking approach and retention index comparison, which led to the annotation of four sterols, eleven aliphatic alcohols, one saturated fatty acid, two unsaturated fatty acids, ten esters of saturated fatty acids, ten esters of unsaturated fatty acids, and one lactone.
