Capicua transcriptional repressor (CIC)-rearranged sarcoma (CRS) is a rare and recently described tumor that most commonly affects patients between 15 and 30 years of age. It is an undifferentiated round cell malignancy, with a disease defining CIC fusion, with double homeobox 4 (DUX4) being the most common partner. Here, we report a 77-year-old woman who presented with a cutaneous thigh mass with a clinical morphology suggesting Merkel cell carcinoma.

Background & objectives The emergence of drug resistance in leishmaniasis has remained a concern. Even new drugs have been found to be less effective within a few years of their use. Coupled with their related side effects and cost-effectiveness, this has prompted the search for alternative therapeutic options.

Microtextured microneedles are tiny needle-like structures with micron-scale microtextures, and the drugs stored in the microtextures can be released after entering the skin to achieve the effect of precise drug delivery. In this study, the skin substitution model of Ogden's hyperelastic model and the microneedle array and microtexture models with different geometrical parameters were selected to simulate and analyse the flow of the microtexture microneedle arrays penetrating the skin by the finite-element method, and the length of the microneedles was determined to be 200 μm, the width 160 μm, and the value of the gaps was determined to be 420 μm. A four-pronged cone was chosen as the shape of microneedles, and a rectangle was chosen as the shape of the drug-carrying microneedle.

A novel mouse model for studies of burn wound conversion using a top hat-shaped brass template.

Burns

December 2024

Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Faculty of Medicine and Graduate School of Medicine, Hokkaido University, Kita 15, Nishi 7, Kita-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido 060-8638, Japan. Electronic address:

Introduction: The pathophysiology of burn wound conversion is not fully understood. Animal models are needed to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and develop treatments. Here, we established a new reproducible mouse model that simulates this process, thereby facilitating studies of burn wound conversion.

The impact of atmospheric ultrafine particulate matter on IgE-mediated type 1 hypersensitivity reaction.

J Hazard Mater

November 2024

Department of Health Sciences, The Graduate School of Dong-A University, Busan 49315, Republic of Korea; Department of Biomedical Sciences, College of Natural Science, Dong-A University, Busan 49315, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

The effect of atmospheric ultrafine particulate matter (UPM) on respiratory allergic diseases has been investigated for decades; however, the precise molecular mechanisms underlying these effects remain poorly understood. In this study, we used a simulated UPM (sUPM) generated via the spark discharge method to refine black carbon, a core particle that closely mimics real-world UPM, including the size (i.e.
