Carotid stenting in the bovine arch.

Catheter Cardiovasc Interv

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts 02115, USA.

Published: December 2003

We report our experience in stent-supported angioplasty of the left internal carotid artery in patients with anomalous origin of the left common carotid, the so-called bovine arch, in which the right brachiocephalic and left carotid share a common trunk from the aortic arch. The occurrence of the anatomic variant is discussed, and techniques of femoral, brachial, and radial approaches are described.

Protein supply to ruminants relies mainly on the flow of microbial crude protein (MCP) from the rumen, which is commonly assumed to primarily depend on energy supply. This study evaluated this assumption with recent data and tested if ruminally fermented organic matter (FOM) was a better predictor of MCP flow than total-tract digestible organic matter (DOM) and if more variables could improve the prediction of MCP flow. A previously published data set was extended by additional studies resulting in a data set of 139 studies including 407 treatment means, typical to Central European rations.

CRISPR/Cas Systems as Diagnostic and Potential Therapeutic Tools for Enterohemorrhagic .

Arch Immunol Ther Exp (Warsz)

Department of Animal, Veterinary, and Food Science, University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho, USA.

Following its discovery as an adaptive immune system in prokaryotes, the clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated proteins (Cas) system has been developed into a multifaceted genome editing tool. This review compiles findings aimed at implementation of this technology for selective elimination or attenuation of enterohemorrhagic (EHEC). EHEC are important zoonotic foodborne pathogens that cause hemorrhagic colitis and can progress to the life-threatening hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).

In this study, the nano chitosan particles were produced by ionotropic gelation between sodium tripolyphosphate and chitosan. The effect of nano chitosan with or without sodium lactate coating was evaluated on physicochemical (pH, thiobarbituric acid, total volatile basic nitrogen, and peroxide), microbial (total mesophilic and psychrotrophic viable counts, lactic acid bacteria, yeasts, and molds), and sensorial properties of beef burgers within 24 days of storage at 4°C. The solutions of 1% nano chitosan (T), 2% nano chitosan (T), 2.

Objective: Berry syndrome is a group of rare congenital cardiac malformations including aortopulmonary window (APW), aortic origin of the right pulmonary artery (AORPA), interruption of the aortic arch (IAA), patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) (supplying the descending aorta) and intact ventricular septum. This paper will analyze the clinical data of 7 patients with Berry syndrome who underwent surgical treatment in our institution and discuss the one-stage surgical correction of Berry syndrome in combination with the literature.

Methods: From January 2013 to July 2024, a total of 7 children with Berry syndrome were admitted to the Cardiac Surgery Department of Beijing Children's Hospital.

Doxorubicin (DOX) is an anthracycline commonly used as a first-line treatment option for various malignancies, either as a stand-alone treatment or in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents. However, its efficacy in advanced cancer stages requires high doses, resulting in significant cytotoxicity to normal cells and severe side effects. Nanotechnology offers a promising strategy to mitigate these drawbacks through controlled drug release.
