OSTEOPOROSIS is a skeletal disorder that compromises bone strength, predisposing a person to an increased risk of fracture. An estimated 700,000 spinal fragility fractures, such as vertebral compression fractures, directly related to osteoporosis occur annually. KYPHOPLASTY, a minimally invasive fracture reduction procedure, has become a treatment option for osteoporotic fractures. A balloon is used in place of the conventional bone tamp to reduce the fracture and create a void in cancellous spinal bone. Polymethylmethacrylate, a cement-like material, is injected into the void to stabilize the fracture. EARLY DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT of vertebral compression fractures with kyphoplasty allows normal anatomy to be restored, ultimately decreasing the risk of patient morbidity.

Visual minimally invasive acupotomy is applicable for the diseases with the pathological characteristics of soft tissue injury, including disorders of spine, four limbs and joints, peripheral nerve compression and chronic soft tissues. The diseases with superior effect obtained are cervicogenic headache, lumbar disc herniation, carpal tunnel syndrome and flexor tendon stenosing tenosynovitis. Under the guidance with ultrasound, visual minimally invasive acupotomy is advantaged at preoperative diagnosis, intraoperative guidance and postoperative evaluation in clinical practice so that it is precise, safe and reliable in clinical treatment.

Background: Intradural extramedullary tuberculoma of the spinal cord (IETSC) is an exceedingly rare manifestation of tuberculosis (TB) affecting the central nervous system.
Case Description: A 33-year-old immunocompetent female with disseminated TB, including pulmonary involvement and leptomeningeal tuberculomas, developed progressive paraplegia and urinary incontinence over 2 months. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed diffuse intradural extramedullary soft tissue from C7 to L2 vertebral levels, indicative of abscess formation and severe spinal cord compression.

Background: Early differentiation between spinal tuberculosis (STB) and acute osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) is crucial for determining the appropriate clinical management and treatment pathway, thereby significantly impacting patient outcomes.
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of deep learning (DL) models using reconstructed sagittal CT images in the differentiation of early STB from acute OVCF, with the aim of enhancing diagnostic precision, reducing reliance on MRI and biopsies, and minimizing the risks of misdiagnosis.
Methods: Data were collected from 373 patients, with 302 patients recruited from a university-affiliated hospital serving as the training and internal validation sets, and an additional 71 patients from another university-affiliated hospital serving as the external validation set.

: Multilevel cervical spondylotic myelopathy (MCSM) presents complex challenges for surgical management, particularly in patients with kyphosis or significant anterior pathology. This study aimed to assess the long-term efficacy of modified expansive open-door laminoplasty (MEOLP) combined with short-level anterior cervical fusion (ACF) in providing decompression, preserving alignment, and maintaining range of motion (ROM) over a nine-year follow-up. : A retrospective analysis was conducted on 124 MCSM patients treated with MEOLP combined with ACF between 2011 and 2015.

: Early studies have suggested that the SARS-CoV-2 virus has a deleterious effect on bone mineral density and may increase the risk of pathological fractures. This study characterized vertebral compression fractures in patients with and without a prior diagnosis of COVID-19. : Using a nationwide claims database, this retrospective study used ICD-10 billing codes to identify patients with a diagnosis of vertebral compression fracture from January 2020 to April 2022.
