The aim of this study was to test the hypothesis that proton density and T2-weighted magnetic resonance (MR) images are more useful than T1-weighted MR images in the diagnoses of disk displacement, disk reduction, and disk shape. The subject group consisted of 92 patients referred for bilateral MRI imaging because of diagnosed signs of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). In the experimental group (52 patients), both T2-weighted and proton density images were made. In the control group (40 patients), only T1-weighted images were taken. The images were evaluated by two oral radiologists relative to their usefulness as a diagnostic aid and rated as either good or fair in each diagnostic category. The percentages of ratings that were good were higher (p < 0.01) for T2-weighted and proton density images than for T1-weighted images in all three types of diagnoses (Fisher's Exact test). In conclusion, T2-weighted and proton density-weighted images were found to be more useful than T1-weighted images in the diagnoses of disk status.

Although microenvironments surrounding single-atom catalysts (SACs) have been widely demonstrated to have a remarkable effect on their catalytic performances, it remains unclear whether the local structure beyond the secondary coordination shells works as well or not. Herein, we employed a series of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) with well-defined and tunable second-beyond coordination spheres as model SAC electrocatalysts to discuss the influence of long-distance structure on the ammonia synthesis from nitrate, which were synthesized and denoted as Cu-NDI-X (X = NMe, H, F). It is first experimentally confirmed that the remote substitution of function groups beyond the secondary coordination sphere can remarkably affect the activity of ammonia synthesis.

Tailored Polymer-Inorganic Bilayer SEI with Proton Holder Feature for Aqueous Zn Metal Batteries.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

January 2025

Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen), Department of Materials Science and Engineering, College Park, Building C, 404, Shenzhen, CHINA.

Conventional SEI in aqueous Zn-ion batteries mainly acts as a physical barrier to prevent HER, which is prone to structural deterioration stemming from uneven Zn deposition at high current densities. Herein, we propose an in-situ structural design of polymer-inorganic bilayer SEI with a proton holder feature by aniline-modulated electrolytes. The inner ZnF2 with high stiffness and strength effectively suppresses Zn dendrites.

Dynamical Disorder in the Mesophase Ferroelectric HdabcoClO: A Machine-Learned Force Field Study.

J Phys Chem C Nanomater Interfaces

January 2025

Department of Mechanical Engineering and Technology Management, Norwegian University of Life Sciences, N-1433 AS, Norway.

Hybrid molecular ferroelectrics with orientationally disordered mesophases offer significant promise as lead-free alternatives to traditional inorganic ferroelectrics owing to properties such as room temperature ferroelectricity, low-energy synthesis, malleability, and potential for multiaxial polarization. The ferroelectric molecular salt HdabcoClO is of particular interest due to its ultrafast ferroelectric room-temperature switching. However, so far, there is limited understanding of the nature of dynamical disorder arising in these compounds.

The goal of this research is to develop and characterize low-cost NHI doped polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)-4-ethyl-4-methylmorpholiniumbromide (ionic liquid) anion exchange membranes (AEM) and its application for membrane cathode assembly. Physical characterization like FTIR, POM, and XRD notified the functional groups, basic structure, and amorphosity of the produced membrane, and it was employed in single-chambered microbial fuel cells (sMFCs) as a separator. The membranes in terms of oxygen diffusion, proton conductivity, and ion exchange capabilities were evaluated.

Previous studies showed no improvement in bacterial biomass for Puniceispirillum marinum IMCC1322 under light regimes. Nevertheless, in nutrient-replete cultures with higher inoculating cell densities, strain IMCC1322 exhibited proteorhodopsin photoheterotrophy. Increasing both inoculum size and the amino acid pool can eliminate quorum sensing and starvation responses in strain IMCC1322.
