Use of foot-to-foot bioelectrical impedance analysis in children.

Published: October 2003

The aim of this study was to compare two methods of measuring body composition in children aged 6-10 years: with a traditional bioelectrical impedance analyser and a foot-to-foot impedance device. In 117 subjects (55 girls, 62 boys), bioelectrical impedance was measured using a Xitron 4000 device and a foot-to-foot impedance instrument (Rowenta); body fat mass and fat-free mass were then calculated and comparisons between means were performed using appropriate statistical tests.

Integration of Asymmetric Multi-Path Hollow Structure and Multiple Heterogeneous Interfaces in FeO@C@NiO Nanoprisms Enabling Ultra-Low and Broadband Absorption.

Key Laboratory of Aerospace Materials and Performance (Ministry of Education) School of Materials Science and Engineering, Beihang University, No.37 Xueyuan Road, Beijing, 100191, P. R. China.

A reasonable construction of hollow structures to obtain high-performance absorbers is widely studied, but it is still a challenge to select suitable materials to improve the low-frequency attenuation performance. Here, the FeO@C@NiO nanoprisms with unique tip shapes, asymmetric multi-path hollow cavity, and core-shell heteroepitaxy structure are designed and synthesized based on anisotropy and intrinsic physical characteristics. Impressively, by changing the load of NiO, the composites achieve strong absorption, broadband, low-frequency absorption: the reflection loss of -55.

Assessing muscle mass in critically ill patients remains challenging. This retrospective cohort study explores the potential of phase angle (PA°) derived from bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) as a surrogate marker for muscle mass monitoring by associating it with daily creatinine excretion (DCE), a structural and metabolic muscle mass marker. In 20 ICU patients, we observed a linear relationship between PA° and DCE at initial (S1) and follow-up (S2) points, with Rho values of 0.

Background: Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder with a burden of comorbidities. Knowledge regarding sarcopenia prevalence and associated risk factors in patients with epilepsy remains limited, which prompted us to conduct the present study.

Methods: This cross-sectional study enrolled patients with epilepsy from our epilepsy clinic and controls from the staff at National Cheng Kung University Hospital, Tainan, Taiwan.

Background: The angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) insertion/deletion (I/D) polymorphism (rs4340) is associated with the pathogenesis of heart failure (HF). This polymorphism may contribute to a greater propensity for severe HF and excess weight.

Objective: To evaluate adiposity, cardiac function, and their association with ACE I/D polymorphism in HF patients.
