Published: October 2003

Recent developments in molecular biology allow novel diagnostic approaches in intraocular inflammation. Genetic markers as well as species-specific sequences are used for the diagnostics of infection or masquerade syndromes. This article provides state-of-the art information about diagnostic vitrectomy.

Purpose: To develop a simple tool to remove retained submacular perfluorocarbon liquid bubbles (R-PFCL) and to inject recombinant tissue plasminogen activator safely in subretinal space in submacular hematomas.

Method: A retrospective, interventional study was performed where a simple homemade micro-viscous fluid control was developed to gain access to subretinal space in a controlled way. The rubber cap of the plunger of a 1-mL syringe was cut; this cut rubber cap of the plunger was fitted inside an empty 1-mL tuberculin syringe, and its end was fitted with the tubings of viscous fluid control of the vitrectomy machine.

State Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology, Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, Guangdong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Ocular Diseases, Guangzhou, China.

Purpose: This study investigates the association between visual function and retinal vasculature metrics, particularly perfusion capacity (PC), in eyes with idiopathic epiretinal membrane (iERM), using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

Methods: This retrospective study includes 30 eyes from 30 iERM patients who had surgery, with a three-month follow-up period. In addition, 28 eyes from 28 healthy individuals served as a control group.

Objective: To perform a systematic literature review analyzing visual outcomes of immediate, early, and delayed vitrectomy in the treatment of acute endophthalmitis after intravitreal anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) injections.

Methods: We conducted a literature search using the Ovid Medline, Embase.com, and Web of Science databases, and relevant articles were selected from original English papers published from 2005 to 2021.

Management of Pediatric Rhegmatogenous Retinal Detachment.

Wills Eye Hospital Mid Atlantic Retina, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

Introduction And Primary Objective: Pediatric rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) presents unique challenges in diagnosis and management. A thorough evaluation of family, medical, and ocular history is helpful, as systemic and genetic conditions can predispose children to RRD. Trauma, high myopia, and history of prematurity are also common risk factors.
