Microbial interactions with host molecules, and programmed responses to host environmental stimuli, are critical for colonization and initiation of pathogenesis. Bacteria of the genus Streptococcus are primary colonizers of the human mouth. They express multiple cell-surface adhesins that bind salivary components and other oral bacteria and enable the development of polymicrobial biofilms associated with tooth decay and periodontal disease. However, the mechanisms by which streptococci invade dentine to infect the tooth pulp and periapical tissues are poorly understood. Here we show that production of the antigen I/II (AgI/II) family polypeptide adhesin and invasin SspA in Streptococcus gordonii is specifically upregulated in response to a collagen type I signal, minimally the tri-peptide Gly-Pro-Xaa (where Xaa is hydroxyproline or alanine). Increased AgI/II polypeptide expression promotes bacterial adhesion and extended growth of streptococcal cell chains along collagen type I fibrils that are characteristically found within dentinal tubules. These observations define a new model of host matrix signal-induced tissue penetration by bacteria and open the way for novel therapy opportunities for oral invasive diseases.

Radioligand therapy is a targeted cancer treatment modality in which radioisotopes are utilized in the delivery of radiation at targeted cancer cells, with the goal of sparing normal cells. Prostate cancer is a well-known radiosensitive disease, historically treated with radioisotopes such as Strontium-89, Samarium-153, and Radium-223 for palliation of bone metastases. Recently, prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) has recently been employed as a radioligand target due to its unique properties of high expression on the surface of prostate cancer cells, limited expression in normal tissue, function as an internalizing cell surface receptor, and increased expression with androgen deprivation therapy.

Objective: Included evaluation of the possibility of using the systemic inflammatory indices for preoperative screening for the presence and severity of endometriosis (EM) in comparison to the findings of the exploratory laparoscopy.
Methods: 88 women with clinical manifestations suggestive of EM were evaluated clinically and by US and gave blood samples for estimation of serum cancer antigen-125 (CA125), platelet and total and differential leucocytic counts for calculation of inflammatory indices; the Systemic Immune-Inflammation index, the Systemic Inflammation Response Index (SIRI), the Neutrophil-Lymphocyte ratio (NLR), the Neutrophil-Monocyte ratio, the Neutrophil-Platelet ratio and the Platelet-Lymphocyte ratio. Then, patients were prepared to undergo laparoscopy for diagnosis and staging.
