Context: COVID-19 has been associated with features of a cytokine storm syndrome with some patients sharing features with the hyperinflammatory disorder, secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (sHLH).
Hypothesis: We hypothesized that proteins associated with sHLH from other causes will be associated with COVID-sHLH and that subjects with fatal COVID-sHLH would have defects in immune-related pathways.
Methods And Models: We identified two cohorts of adult patients presenting with COVID-19 at two tertiary care hospitals in Seattle, Washington in 2020 and 2021.

Metaproteomics enables the large-scale characterization of microbial community proteins, offering crucial insights into their taxonomic composition, functional activities, and interactions within their environments. By directly analyzing proteins, metaproteomics offers insights into community phenotypes and the roles individual members play in diverse ecosystems. Although database-dependent search engines are commonly used for peptide identification, they rely on pre-existing protein databases, which can be limiting for complex, poorly characterized microbiomes.

Individuals with AIDS and Kaposi sarcoma (AIDS-KS) with pulmonary involvement have high-risk of poor outcomes but diagnosis of pulmonary KS in low-resource settings is difficult. We aimed to discover plasma proteins that distinguish individuals with pulmonary KS from those without pulmonary involvement. SomaScan proteomics screen measured 7288 plasma proteins in 22 cases and 17 controls selected from 181 participants with HIV-1 and cutaneous KS who underwent bronchoscopy.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is an incurable neurodegenerative disease that affects neurons in the brain and spinal cord, causing loss of muscle control, and eventually leads to death. Phosphorylated transactive response DNA binding protein-43 (TDP-43) is the major pathological protein in both sporadic and familial ALS, forming cytoplasmic aggregates in over 95% of cases. Of the 10-15% of ALS cases that are familial, mutations in TDP-43 represent about 5% of those with a family history.

Introduction: Motoric cognitive risk (MCR) is a pre-dementia syndrome characterized by mobility and cognitive dysfunction. This study conducted a proteome-wide study of MCR and compared the proteomic signatures of MCR to that of mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
Methods: Participants were classified as MCR using a memory questionnaire and 4-meter walk.
