Ovarian tumors are formed either in the absence of Bam (bag-of-marbles) in germ-line cells or the overexpression of Dpp (decapentaplegic) in ovarian somatic cells. These tumor cells contain spectrosomes characteristic of ovarian germ-line stem cells and the immediate descendents called cystoblasts. We show that pole cells can successfully populate the gonad after transplantation to the dorsal mesoderm of host embryos following germ-band extension. By using this approach, we demonstrate that bam- cells can populate the gonad and become established as germ-line stem cells. Tumor cells containing the wild-type bam gene under heat shock transcriptional control are able to produce functional oocytes. Thus, stem cells/cystoblasts of the adult ovary are capable of forming stem cells in the embryonic ovary and recapitulating the development of the female germ line.

The RNase activity of MCPIP1 is essential for regulating cellular homeostasis, proliferation, and tumorigenesis. Our study elucidates the effects of downregulation of MCPIP1 expression and an RNase-inactivating mutation (D141N) on normal epithelial kidney cells, indicating that MCPIP1 expression is a key factor that suppresses neoplastic transformation. We observed that either expression downregulation or mutation of MCPIP1 significantly increased its clonogenicity and altered the expression of cancer stem cell (CSC) markers and factors involved in epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT).

A straightforward one-step hydrothermal method is introduced for synthesizing highly efficient red fluorescence carbon dots (R-CQDs), utilizing Heena leaf (Lawsonia inermis) powder as the carbon precursor. The resulting R-CQDs exhibit excitation at 540 nm and emission at 675 nm, a high absolute photoluminescence (PL) with quantum yield of 40% in ethanol. Various physicochemical characterization was employed to confirm successful formation of R-CQDs including UV-Vis Spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) Spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction Spectroscopy, Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy.

Epidemiologic study suggests that nicotine reduces the risk of Parkinson's disease (PD) and thus could serve as a potential treatment. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of nicotine on the behavioral phenotypes and pathological characteristics of mice induced by human alpha-synuclein preformed fibers (α-syn-PFF).
