Infections complicate 0.5 to 1% of surgeries for total hip prostheses. Staphylococcus species are the most common etiological agents. The role of host factors in the persistence of such infections despite appropriate therapy has yet to be determined. We report the defective immune response characterized by oversecretion of tumor necrosis factor and interleukin 10 and by undersecretion of gamma interferon in such a patient. Further study may determine the prevalence of such deficits and the most appropriate therapy for these patients.

Breast cancer prognosis is complicated by tumor heterogeneity. Traditional methods focus on cancer-specific gene signatures, but cross-cancer strategies that provide deeper insights into tumor homogeneity are rarely used. Immunotherapy, particularly immune checkpoint inhibitors, results from variable responses across cancers, offering valuable prognostic insights.

Background: Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were obtained from patients across different stages of Parkinson's disease (PD) progression and stimulated ex vivo to develop biomarkers for predicting PD progression.

Method: PBMCs obtained at one time-point from patients with moderate stage PD (>5 years after diagnosis) (n = 30), early stage PD (<5 years after diagnosis) (n = 27), prodromal PD (rapid-eye-movement sleep behavior disorder patients) (n = 14), and healthy controls (HCs) (n = 9) were isolated from whole blood and cryopreserved. Samples were thawed, then pan-monocytes and T-cell populations were isolated from PBMCs and subjected to treatment with vehicle or IFN-γ.

Thai Red Cross Emerging Infectious Diseases Health Science Centre, King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital, Bangkok, Thailand.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has a significant global health impact. A substantial number of infected individuals continue to experience post-acute sequelae that affect daily life activities. This study aims to assess blood biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease, inflammatory markers, and antibody indices related to various organ symptoms, particularly neuropsychiatric and other pro-inflammatory conditions, in Long COVID patients.

Background: The SuperAging Research Initiative (SRI) seeks to identify factors that promote cognitive healthspan. SuperAgers are defined as individuals aged 80 and older with episodic memory performance that is at least average for people who are two to three decades younger. A goal of the SRI is to identify the genomic contributors to SuperAging and herein we describe the interim results of DNA- and plasma protein-based analyses.
