Nucl Med Rev Cent East Eur

Institute for Nuclear Medicine, Clinical Center of Serbia, Belgrade, Yugoslavia.

Published: January 2004

A 62-year-old patient presented with flatulence, abdominal distension and other symptoms of ileus. Roentgenographic finding found compression on duodenum. Blood pool scintigraphy ((99m)Tc erythrocytes) showed aortal aneurysm, while simultaneous gastric emptying study with liquid meal ((99m)Tc-S-colloid) showed dislocation of duodenum and compression from abdominal aortal aneurysm.

Background: Loeys-Dietz syndrome (LDS) is a clinically and genetically heterogeneous, autosomal dominant aortic aneurysm syndrome with widespread systemic involvement. We present the case of a 16.5-year-old girl with LDS type 2 (LDS2) caused by a heterozygous pathogenic variant, c.

Ortner's syndrome, also known as cardiovocal syndrome, is a rare cause of hoarseness due to compression of the left recurrent laryngeal nerve caused by pathology of cardiovascular structures in the mediastinum. It was first described by Norbert Ortner in 1897, who associated the syndrome with mitral stenosis. It typically presents as paresis of the left recurrent laryngeal nerve, which is mechanically compressed in the area of the aortic arch.

Aortic root remodeling using the Florida sleeve technique was proposed as a simpler alternative to classical reconstructive interventions in patients with aortic root aneurysm without aortic insufficiency. We present a 10-year result of valve-sparing surgical treatment using the Florida sleeve technique in a patient with connective tissue dysplasia and aortic root aneurysm.

Background: Thoracic aortic aneurysm (TAA) occurs due to pathological aortal dilation, and both individuals with normal tricuspid aortic valves (TAV) or abnormal bicuspid aortic valves (BAV), the latter being a congenital condition, are at risk. However, some differences are present between TAA/BAV and TAA/TAV with respect to their pathophysiological processes and molecular mechanisms, but their exact nature is still mostly unknown. Therefore, it is necessary to elucidate TAA developmental differences among BAV vs.

Marfan syndrome and aortic involvement: a narrative review.

Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci

September 2023

Department of Internal Medicine, University of Genoa, Genoa, Italy.

Marfan syndrome (MFS) is a systemic connective tissue disease that commonly and most severely affects the ocular, skeletal, and cardiovascular systems. The aim of the manuscript is to review the aortic involvement and complications in MFS, including aortal dissection, thoracic aortic aneurysm, abdominal aortic aneurysm, and acute aortic syndrome. Dissecting thoracic aortic aneurysm and progressing aortic root enlargement are the major causes of MFS morbidity and mortality.
