Preparations of low-molecular-weight DNA were obtained from gonads of various hydrobiont species by alcohol precipitation technique. An enzymatic hydrolysis-based method for producing soluble low-molecular-weight DNA was developed. All the nucleic acid components of the preparations obtained were separated by electrophoresis, and their molecular weights were determined. It was demonstrated that high activities of endogenous enzymes (nucleases and proteases) in milts of hydrobionts correlated with the degree of hydrolysis of their nucleic acids.

Background: Aggregation of transactive response DNA binding protein 43 (TDP-43) is the major pathological feature of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Background: Despite recent FDA approvement of disease-modifying treatments that reduce Aβ, the identification of novel therapeutic strategies that could delay the Alzheimer's disease (AD) development are needed. We identified and developed novel small molecule compounds that mildly inhibit mitochondrial complex I (MCI). Chronic treatment with a tool compound CP2 in 4 mouse models of familial AD was efficacious protecting against synaptic dysfunction and memory impairment, improving brain energetics and cognitive performance, reducing levels of human pTau and Ab.
