Life-threatening fungal infections are becoming more frequent and involve a greater variety of strains, many of which are drug-resistant. Both public research organisations and the pharmaceutical industry are committed to the development of new drugs to satisfy this increasing medical need. The approach described here exemplifies the efforts directed towards the discovery of drugs which are active against novel targets, exemplified by the cell-cycle regulator, Civ1.

Background: Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most common malignant urological tumor, and regrettably, and is insensitive to chemotherapy and radiotherapy, resulting in poor patient outcomes. DBF4 plays a critical role in DNA replication and participates in various biological functions, making it an attractive target for cancer treatment. However, its significance in ccRCC has not yet been explored.

Human immunodeficiency virus-1 (HIV-1) uses a number of strategies to modulate viral and host gene expression during its life cycle. To characterize the transcriptional and translational landscape of HIV-1 infected cells, we used a combination of ribosome profiling, disome sequencing and RNA sequencing. We show that HIV-1 messenger RNAs are efficiently translated at all stages of infection, despite evidence for a substantial decrease in the translational efficiency of host genes that are implicated in host cell translation.

Cellular senescence contributes to inflammation and organ dysfunction during aging. While this process is generally characterized by irreversible cell cycle arrest, its morphological features and functional impacts vary in different cells from various organs. In this study, we examined the expression of multiple senescent markers in the lungs of young and aged humans and mice, as well as in mouse lung endothelial cells cultured with a senescence inducer, suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA), or doxorubicin (DOXO).

Mitochondrial Rho-GTPase 1 (MIRO1) is an outer mitochondrial membrane protein which regulates mitochondrial transport and mitophagy in mitosis. In present study, we reported the crucial roles of MIRO1 in mammalian oocyte meiosis and its potential relationship with aging. We found that MIRO1 expressed in mouse and porcine oocytes, and its expression decreased in aged mice.

In tetraploid F1 populations, traditional segregation distortion tests often inaccurately flag SNPs due to ignoring polyploid meiosis processes and genotype uncertainty. We develop tests that account for these factors. Genotype data from tetraploid F1 populations are often collected in breeding programs for mapping and genomic selection purposes.
