The Digit Vigilance Test (DVT), a measure of sustained attention and psychomotor speed, was evaluated in terms of test-retest and alternate-form reliability as well as sensitivity to a single dose of diazepam (10 mg). A one-page version was compared to the standard two-page format. Forty undergraduates, randomly assigned in a double-blind manner to either drug or placebo condition, were tested three times in two sessions (1 week apart). Both Page 1 and Total Time scores were found to be highly reliable across time and forms. Repeated measures ANOVAs revealed the Total Time score, but not the Page 1 score, to be significant in discriminating diazepam from placebo across time, supporting the use of the complete DVT for measuring drug effects. Findings based on convergent measures also help to validate the DVT as a measure of sustained attention.

This study simulates the natural movement of plants in indoor environments to investigate whether these plants can effectively facilitate psychological, physiological, and emotional recovery from fatigue caused by short vigilance tasks. A total of 63 participants completed baseline assessments of emotional and physiological stress as well as attention and memory (including the POMS-SF, blood pressure, pulse, and Digit Span Backward). They then performed a vigilance task to induce fatigue, followed by a second measurement of stress and cognition.

In modern society, many workers struggle with sleep deprivation due to their work schedules and excessive workloads. Accurate self-awareness and self-monitoring abilities are crucial for workers to adopt risk-coping strategies and protective behaviors when fatigued. The current study examined the relationship between chronotypes and self-monitoring performance during 24 h of sleep deprivation.

The European Union (EU) Medical Device Regulation and In Vitro Medical Device Regulation have introduced more rigorous regulatory requirements for medical devices, including new rules for post-market surveillance. However, EU market vigilance is limited by the absence of harmonized reporting systems, languages and nomenclatures among Member States. Our aim was to develop a framework based on Natural Language Processing capable of automatically collecting publicly available Field Safety Notices (FSNs) reporting medical device problems by applying web scraping to EU authority websites, to attribute the most suitable device category based on the European Medical Device Nomenclature (EMDN), and to display processed FSNs in an aggregated way to allow multiple queries.

Importance: Emergency medical services (EMS) providers transiently ascend to high altitude for primary missions and secondary transports in mountainous areas in helicopters that are unpressurised and do not have facilities for oxygen supplementation. The decrease in cerebral oxygen saturation can lead to impairment in attention and reaction time as well as in quality of care during acute exposure to altitude.
Objective: The primary aim of the current study was to investigate the effect of oxygen supplementation on cognitive performance in Helicopter EMS (HEMS) providers during acute exposure to altitude.
