Although microporous carbons can perform well for CO2 separations under high pressure conditions, their energy-demanding regeneration may render them a less attractive material option. Here, we developed a large-pore mesoporous carbon with pore sizes centered around 20-30 nm using a templated technical lignin. During the soft-templating process, unique cylindrical supramolecular assemblies form from the copolymer template.

Controlling the motion of molecular machines to influence higher-order structures is well-established in biological systems but remains a significant challenge for synthetic analogs. Herein, we aim to harness the mechanical switching of switchable molecular tweezers to modulate their self-assembly and produce stimuli-responsive organogels. We report a series of terpy(Pt-salphen) molecular tweezers functionalized with alkyl chains that act as low-molecular-weight gelators (LMWGs) in their open conformation.

Unlabelled: Blood-brain barrier opening with ultrasound can potentiate drug efficacy in the treatment of brain pathologies and also provides therapeutic effects on its own. It is an innovative tool to transiently, repeatedly and safely open the barrier, with studies showing beneficial effects in both preclinical models for Alzheimer's disease and recent clinical studies. The first preclinical and clinical work has mainly shown a decrease in amyloid burden in mice models and in patients.

Non-comparability and unplannability as material topoi in antenatal care conversations.

Patient Educ Couns

December 2024

Philipps-Universität Marburg, Institut für Germanistische Sprachwissenschaft, Deutschhausstraße 3, Marburg 35032, Germany. Electronic address:

Objective: This paper studies argumentation and its function to establish common ground in pregnancy counseling conversations during the third trimester of the pregnancy, focusing on two material topoi: Non-comparability and Unplannability.

Methods: We take a conversation-analytical and interactional approach and draw on 37 natural occurring counseling conversations, videorecorded during two periods at a university hospital. The conversations are typically between the midwife and the pregnant woman.

Photic drive response in people with epilepsy: Exploring the interaction with background alpha rhythm.

Vision Res

January 2025

Eccles Institute of Neuroscience, John Curtin School of Medical Research, Australian National University, Acton, ACT, Australia. Electronic address:

Photic drive responses (PDRs) are used to explore cortical hyperexcitability. We quantified PDRs and interactions with the alpha rhythm in people with epilepsy (PwE). Fifteen PwE (mean age ± SD 47.
