The family of ser/thr protein phosphatases 2A (PP2A) is a major regulator of cell proliferation and cell death and is critically involved in the maintenance of homeostasis. In order to analyse the importance of PP2A proteins in apoptotic and developmental processes, this review focuses on previous studies concerning the role of PP2A in morphogenesis. We first analyse wing formation in Drosophila, a model for invertebrates, then chick limb bud, a model for vertebrates. We also present a pioneer experiment to illustrate the potential relevance of PP2A studies in BMP signalling during chicken development and we finally discuss the BMP downstream signalling pathways.

Thyroid hormone (TH) is essential for growth and development, yet its specific role during embryogenesis remains incompletely understood. This study investigates the impact of TH deficiency, induced by thiourea, a known inhibitor of thyroid peroxidase (TPO), on the development of domestic chicks. Thiourea was administered before thyroid gland formation, and its presence in treated embryos was confirmed through liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

Open wounds present a significant challenge in healthcare, requiring careful management to prevent infection and promote wound healing. Advanced wound dressings are critical need to enhance their hemostatic capabilities, antimicrobial properties, and ability to support angiogenesis and sustained moisture for optimal healing. This study introduces a flexible hemostatic dressing designed for open wounds, integrating chitosan (CS) for hemostasis and biocompatibility, silk fibroin (SF) for mechanical strength, and montmorillonite (MMT) for enhanced drug transport.

Embryonic muscle activity is involved in various aspects of bone morphogenesis and growth. Normal mechanical stimuli of muscle contraction are important in most cases, and when the muscles are immobilized, the developing bones are abnormally shaped. In chick embryos, a characteristic curved deformity is reproducibly induced in the developing tibiotarsus using the bone-weakening agent, beta-aminopropionitrile (bAPN).

Large-scale cell death is commonly observed during organismal development and in human pathologies. These cell death events extend over great distances to eliminate large populations of cells, raising the question of how cell death can be coordinated in space and time. One mechanism that enables long-range signal transmission is trigger waves, but how this mechanism might be used for death events in cell populations remains unclear.
