Priego and colleagues identify a secreted glycoprotein TIMP1, expressed downstream of the transcription factor STAT3, in a subpopulation of STAT3+ reactive astrocytes as a mediator of immunosuppression in late-stage brain metastases. The STAT3 inhibitor silibinin enhances the preclinical efficacy of the combined PD-1/CTLA4 immune checkpoint blockade, providing a rationale to translate the combination therapy into clinical use for this underserved patient group with poor prognosis. Insulin resistance and diabetes are associated with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) conditions, which are distinguished by metabolic dysfunction, oxidative stress and inflammation. Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1), a NAD-dependent deacetylase, is fundamental in regulating metabolic pathways, reducing inflammation, and improving antioxidant defenses. This is the first study to investigate the effects of SRT1720, a SIRT1 activator, in diabetic rats on a high-fat diet.

Aims: Biomarkers are pivotal in the management of heart failure (HF); however, their lack of cardiac specificity could limit clinical utility. This study aimed to investigate the transcoronary changes and intracardiac production of these biomarkers.

Methods: Transcoronary gradients for B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) and five novel biomarkers-galectin-3 (Gal-3), soluble suppression of tumourigenicity 2 (sST2), tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase 1 (TIMP-1), growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) and myeloperoxidase (MPO)-were determined using femoral artery (FA) and coronary sinus (CS) samples from 30 HF patients and 10 non-HF controls.

Liver fibrosis is a significant contributor to global morbidity and mortality, making the identification of non-toxic natural therapies to slow its progression essential. This study evaluated the anti-fibrotic potential of a nutraceutical blend comprising extra virgin olive oil, linseed oil, and ginger extract, formulated in both emulsion and nanoemulsion forms, using a rat model of liver fibrosis. Nanoemulsions were prepared using the ultrasonication technique, and their particle size and stability were analyzed via the DLS method.

Objective: Acute retinal necrosis (ARN) caused by varicella-zoster virus (VZV) is associated with changes in specific proteins in the eye's fluid, particularly matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP-3), an enzyme that breaks down tissue structures, and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), which regulates MMP activity. This study aims to investigate how these proteins correlate with the progression of ARN.

Methods: We analyzed aqueous humor samples from 33 patients with ARN and 23 control patients with virus-negative uveitis.
