Cauliflower (Brassica oleracea var. botrytis L.) and cabbage (B. oleracea var capitata L.) are two varieties of species B. oleracea. Cauliflower BobCAL gene losses the original function due to its terminated mutation while cabbage BoCAL gene has the complete function. We obtained cauliflower plants transgenic for BoCAL gene using Arobacterium-mediated transformation. Genetic analysis of T2 generation indicated that all cauliflower plants transgenic for BoCAL failed to form curd and produced the green, loosed inflorescences composed of flower buds instead, demonstrating that cauliflower BobCAL was complemented by cabbage BoCAL, and thus transgenic cauliflower lost the ability to form curd. Selfing of these transgenic plants gave rise to the similar inflorescence phenotype of T3 plants except 15 days delay of inflorescence appearance compared with the plants of T1 generation. When transgenic cauliflower was crossed with wild-type cauliflower, the progenies formed the curd with a few of flower buds, and they delayed inflorescence onset till 135 days after sowing.

The present research study investigated the potential protective effect of Bifurcaria bifurcata extract on cell viability and antioxidant defences of cultured human Caco-2 cells submitted to oxidative stress induced by tert-butylhydroperoxide (tert-BOOH). Aqueous extracts were firstly characterized in terms of total phenolic contents. Concentrations of reduced glutathione (GSH) and malondialdehyde (MDA), generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), nitric oxide (NO) production, antioxidant enzymes activities [NADPH quinone dehydrogenase 1 (NQO1) and glutathione S-transferase (GST)], caspase 3/7 activity and gene expression linked to apoptosis, proinflammation and oxidative stress signaling pathways were used as markers of cellular oxidative status.

Nowadays a decrease tendency in human sperm quality has been reported mainly in developed countries. Reproductive technologies have been very valuable in achieving successful pregnancies with low quality sperm samples. However, considering that spermatozoa molecular contribution is increasingly important in recent studies, it is crucial to study whether fertilization with low sperm quality could leave a molecular mark on progeny.

Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis) is a species with a high commercial value that exhibits a reproductive dysfunction in males born and raised in captivity (F1) that hinders their sustainable culture. The present study evaluates the sperm quality and dopaminergic pathway of males born in the wild environment and of F1 males. Traditional sperm analyses were performed, finding only significant differences in curvilinear velocity (VCL) and no significant differences in viability and total motility.
