Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is increasingly common but its pathogenesis is poorly understood. The ability to assess genetic and pharmacologic interventions is hampered by the lack of robust preclinical mouse models of HFpEF. We developed a novel "two-hit" model, which combines obesity and insulin resistance with chronic pressure overload to recapitulate clinical features of HFpEF.

Background: AI-CAC provides more actionable information than the Agatston coronary artery calcium (CAC) score. We have recently shown in the MESA (Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis) that AI-CAC automated left atrial (LA) volumetry enabled prediction of atrial fibrillation (AF) as early as 1 year.
Objectives: In this study, the authors evaluated the performance of AI-CAC LA volumetry versus LA measured by human experts using cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMRI) for predicting incident AF and stroke and compared them with Cohorts for Heart and Aging Research in Genomic Epidemiology model for atrial fibrillation (CHARGE-AF) risk score, Agatston score, and N-terminal pro b-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP).

Background/aim: Atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) commonly co-occur, significantly increasing morbidity and mortality. Poorly controlled AF can contribute to complications like HF and is associated with conditions, such as stroke and pulmonary embolism (PE). This report involves a man with AF who had persistent respiratory symptoms and left-sided chest pain, initially suspected to be PE, but eventually diagnosed as HF.

Increasing evidence has demonstrated that sPRR [a truncated soluble form of (pro)renin receptor] levels may reflect the severity of several diseases, including kidney disease, hypertension, and heart failure (HF). Although previous studies using cohorts primarily consisting of HF patients with reduced ejection fraction revealed that increased plasma sPRR levels may be a promising evaluative indicator for HF, definitive information on the relationship between plasma sPRR levels and HF patients with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) is still insufficient and scarce. In the present study, we further clarified the status of plasma sPRR levels in HF patients by meta-analysis.

Objectives: We aimed to identify the core symptom and symptom clusters of patients with AF by generating a symptom network.
