A pilot study of anticytocine therapy (PCD) was carried out in 9 patients with primary myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS). After 12 weeks, 2 patients (22%) showed hematological response cutting down the need for washed-out erythrocyte transfusions by half or more. MDS progression at different stages was reported in 4; transformation to acute myeloleukemia--2. PCD treatment is indicated in MDS patients, aged over 65, with a less than 10% blast level of the bone marrow, and without any risks of tumor progression.

Methods: The authors analyze the characteristics, therapeutic approaches, and outcomes of patients with HMA-sAML from the Programa Español para el Tratamiento de Hemopatías Malignas (PETHEMA) registry.
Results: A total of 479 patients were included, mostly from prior myelodysplastic syndrome (84%).

Patients who develop acute myeloid leukemia (AML) after having received treatment for myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) or related conditions have particularly poor outcomes. This study analyzed adult patients with newly diagnosed AML who previously had MDS, chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML), or MDS/myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN) overlap syndrome, and who had received hypomethylating agents, chemotherapy, and/or allogeneic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) for these antecedent disorders. From January 2012 to August 2023, we included 673 patients with a median age of 70 years (range, 19-94); 536 (80%) had transformed from MDS, and the remainder from CMML or MDS-MPN.

Purpose: To investigate the outcomes and risk factors for patients with hematologic malignancies (HM) following late-stage SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Background: Patients with HM such as lymphoproliferative malignancies (including acute lymphoblastic leukemia and multiple myeloma) and myeloproliferative malignancies (including acute myeloid leukemia, myeloproliferative neoplasm, and myelodysplastic syndrome) are at increased risk of severe illness and high mortality from COVID-19. This study examines the impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection severity on HM prognosis during the late phase of COVID-19, using data from 203 patients at Shanxi Bethune Hospital.
