Various interpretations of the parasitism phenomenon exist. In this work data supporting the ecological understanding of its nature are presented. For parasitic species formed in the process of evolution the host organism has become the habitat (nutrition, multiplication), i.e., the environment, where interactions between the host and parasites are governed by ecological regularities. The consequences of this interactions are different (disease, asymptomatic infection), being secondary they reflect the result of concrete interactions. For this reason parasitism should not be identified in terms of only one consequence of such interaction--the development of pathologic processes.

The vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV)-vectored African swine fever virus (ASFV) vaccine can induce efficient immune response, but the potential mechanism remains unsolved. In order to investigate the efficacy of recombinant viruses (VSV-p35, VSV-p72)-mediated dendritic cells (DCs) maturation and the mechanism of inducing T-cell immune response, the functional effects of recombinant viruses on DC activation and target antigens presentation were explored in this study. The results showed that surface-marked molecules (CD80, CD86, CD40, and MHC-II) and secreted cytokines (IL-4, TNF-α, IFN-γ) were highly expressed in the recombinant virus-infected DCs.

Anxiety, a future-oriented negative emotional state, is characterized by heightened arousal and vigilance. The elevated plus maze (EPM) test is a widely used assay of anxiety-related behaviors in rodents and shows a phenomenon where animals with prior test experience tend to avoid open arms in retest sessions. While this one-trial tolerance (OTT) phenomenon limits the reuse of the EPM test, the potential mechanisms remain unsolved.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) has been associated with disruptions in tissue mechanical homeostasis and inflammatory and metabolic derangements. However, the direct correlation between metabolic alterations and changes in tissue stiffness, and whether they could play a role as upstream initiators of disease pathology remains to be investigated. This emerging concept has yet to be put into clinical practice as many questions concerning the interplay between extracellular matrix mechanical properties and regulation of metabolic pathways remain unsolved.

The Muscomorpha is one of the most species-rich brachyceran groups in Diptera, with many species serving as important disease vectors; however, its high-level phylogenetic relationships have long been controversial and unsolved. This study comparatively analyzed the characteristics of mitogenomes of 131 species that represent 18 superfamilies in Muscomorpha, in which mitogenomes of 16 species have been newly sequenced and annotated, demonstrating that their gene composition, order, AT bias, length variation, and codon usage are consistent with documented dipteran mitogenomes. The phylogenetic topologies demonstrated that the robustness of Muscomorpha and major clades within Muscomorpha are monophyletic: Cyclorrhapha, Schizophora, and Calyptratae.
