Regardless of whether CVK is used qualitatively for RGP lens design selection or quantitatively in RGP parameter selection, it has a significant role in contact lens practice. Further advancements and testing on CVK-based RGP fitting modules and fluorescein simulations will make CVK an invaluable tool for the RGP lens fitter. Soft lens applications of CVK data are already being tested [42,43]. This technology will become the standard of care for all contact lens patients and will most likely replace the keratometer.

This review examines the history of contact lens (CL) care products, particularly focusing on hard contact lenses (HCLs) like those made from polymethyl methacrylate and rigid gas permeable (RGP) materials. Although literature on CL history is extensive, there is limited information on the history of CL care products, especially in Japan. This review uses advertisements from the Journal of the Japan Contact Lens Society from 1959 to 2023 to trace the evolution of these products.

Purpose: To analyze the efficacy of different disinfecting methods for contact lenses (CL) against Acanthamoeba castellanii (AC) using quantitative PCR (qPCR) based on RNA detection.
Methods: Three CL materials: rigid gas permeable (RGP), hydrogel (Hy), and silicone hydrogel (SiHy), were contaminated with 1x10 amoebae/ml and incubated for 24 h at 30 °C. After contamination, pre-cleaning steps were performed before using four maintenance solutions based on hydrogen peroxide (HP), sodium hypochlorite (SH), povidone-iodine (PI), and a multipurpose solution (MS).

Background: To compare the efficiency of three artificial intelligence (AI) frameworks (Standard Machine Learning (ML), Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) and Convolution Neural Networks (CNN)) with a reference method (Mean radius of curvature (K)) to predict the posterior radius of curvature of the best-fitted rigid contact lens (RCBFL) in keratoconus eyes.
Methods: This retrospective study included 197 keratoconus eyes of 135 patients fitted with Rose K2® (Menicon®, Nagoya, Japan) rigid contact lenses with one or more topographies available (MS39®, CSO®, Ferrara, Italy) between January 2020 and September 2022. Two types of topographic data (indices and reconstructed maps from raw data) were used for AI analysis.

This study aims to observe the clinical efficacy and safety of rigid gas permeable corneal contact lenses (RGP-CLs) wearing after femtosecond laser-assisted minimally invasive lamellar keratoplasty (FL-MILK) in progressive and advanced keratoconus eyes. Twenty-five patients (27 eyes) fitted with RGP-CLs after FL-MILK were enrolled, and 22 grading-matched keratoconus patients (23 eyes) as a control group. Corneal morphological data, diopter, best corrected vision, corneal endothelium, non-invasive tear film rupture time (NIBUT), corneal perception and comfort questionnaire were analysed before and after wearing RGP-CLs.
