The offspring of coronary heart disease (CHD) patients are at particularly high risk for developing CHD. Endothelial dysfunction is present in the majority of CHD and atherosclerosis patients. Fish oil, rich in n-3 fatty acids has been shown to augment endothelium-dependent vasodilatation in human peripheral and coronary arteries. The aims of this study are to investigate presence of endothelial dysfunction determined by the brachial flow-mediated diameter, nitric oxide, plasma lipids and fibrinogen, and the effect of high doses of fish oil on these parameters. Twenty-four healthy offspring of CHD patients (study group) were supplemented with 9 g/day Alsepa fish oil (each gram containing 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA), for a period of two weeks. Plasma nitric oxide, urine nitric oxide, fibrinogens and flow-mediated vasodilatation (FMD) were determined prior to fish oil therapy, two weeks into therapy and four weeks after the end of therapy with fish oil. Twelve healthy subjects (control group) with no family history of heart disease were studied as controls (day one only). The offspring had a lower increase in FMD and lower nitric oxide production, compared with the control group. No other parameters varied between the two groups. The administration of fish oil did not result in any changes in the studied parameters. In healthy offspring of CHD patients, early endothelial dysfunction was documented before evidence of atherosclerosis. Ingestion of fish oil over a 13-day period did not improve endothelial dysfunction.

Background: To compare the impact of two different lipid emulsions, specifically a soybean oil-based emulsion and a multiple oil emulsion (soybean oil, medium-chain triglycerides, olive oil, and fish oil, SMOF), on serum metabolites of very low birth weight (VLBW) infants using untargeted metabolomics analysis.
Methods: A comparative study was conducted on 25 VLBW infants hospitalized in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) of Hangzhou Women's Hospital in 2023. The infants were divided into the SMOF group (13 cases) and the soybean oil group (12 cases) based on the type of lipid emulsion used during parenteral nutrition.

The bioavailability of long-chain omega-3 fatty acids is a critical yet often overlooked factor influencing their efficacy. This review evaluates the bioavailability of EPA/DHA from acute (single-dose) and chronic human studies, focusing on (a) chemical forms such as triacylglycerols (TAG, natural and re-esterified, rTAG), free fatty acids (FFA), and phospholipids (PL) from sources like fish, krill, and microalgae, and (b) delivery methods like microencapsulation and emulsification. Bioavailability for isolated chemically forms followed the order: FFA > PL > rTAG > unmodified TAG > ethyl esters (EE).

Resolvin D1 (RvD1) is an endogenous anti-inflammatory mediator that modulates the inflammatory response and promotes inflammation resolution. RvD1 has demonstrated neuroprotective effects in various central nervous system contexts; however, its role in the pathophysiological processes of intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) and the potential protective mechanisms when combined with exercise rehabilitation remain unclear. A mouse model of ICH was established using collagenase, and treatment with RvD1 combined with three weeks of exercise rehabilitation significantly improved neurological deficits, muscle strength, learning, and memory in ICH mice while reducing anxiety-like behavior.
