Separation and on-line concentration of bisphenol A and three alkylphenols were investigated by micellar electrokinetic chromatography with the anionic surfactant, sodium dodecyl sulfate. The separation conditions were optimized by the simultaneous addition of the organic solvent and cyclodextrin to the running solution. The separation of hydrophobic analytes and 4-nonylphenol isomers was improved by the addition of 10% methanol and 5 mM beta-cyclodextrin to the running solution. When the sweeping with the running solution was used as the on-line concentration procedure, 69-, 48-, 55- and 41-fold increases in detection sensitivity were obtained for bisphenol A, 4-tert.-butylphenol and 4-(1,1,3,3-tetramethylbutyl)phenol, and the second peak of 4-nonylphenol isomers, respectively. The detection limits were 0.0071, 0.0065, 0.021 and 0.055 mg/l, respectively. These results were better than those with the cationic surfactant, tetradecyltrimethylammonium bromide.

In situ measurements of the chemical identity and quantity of anode gases during electrochemical measurements and rare earth (RE) electrolysis from fluoride-based molten salts composed of different kinds of rare earth oxides (REOs) were performed using FTIR spectrometry. Linear sweep voltammetry (LSV) was carried out to characterize oxidation processes and determine the anodic effect from NdF + PrF + LiF + REO melt. RE complex formation and subsequent reactions on the GC anode surface were discussed to understand the formation pathways of CO/CO and perfluorocarbon gases (PFC), mainly CF and CF.

Propofol, a widely used intravenous anesthetic agent, requires accurate monitoring to ensure therapeutic efficacy and prevent oversedation. Recent developments in modern analytical instrumentation have led to significant breakthroughs in on-line analysis of exhaled breath. This review discusses several sophisticated analytical methods that have been explored for noninvasive, real-time monitoring of propofol concentrations, including proton transfer reaction mass spectrometry, selected ion flow tube mass spectrometry, ion mobility spectrometry, and gas chromatography coupled to surface acoustic wave sensors.

Saccharides are the dominant factor shaping the texture of freeze-dried products. This study investigated the impact of various molecular-weight saccharides at different concentrations on the physical properties and intermolecular interactions of pectin-CMC cryogels by experiment and molecular dynamic (MD) simulations. Results showed that the increased shrinkage of cryogels and enhanced molecular interactions between saccharides and pectin-CMC were mechanisms that enhanced the hardness of cryogels.

Bulk electrical impedance spectroscopy (bio-capacitance) probes, hold significant promise for real-time cell monitoring in bioprocesses. Focusing on Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells, we present a sensitivity analysis framework to assess the impact of cell and culture properties on the complex permittivity spectrum, ε, and its associated parameters, permittivity increment, Δε, critical frequency, f, and Cole-Cole parameter, α, measured by bio-capacitance probes. Our sensitivity analysis showed that Δε is highly sensitive to cell size and concentration, making it suitable for estimating biovolume during the exponential growth phase, whereas f provides information about cumulative changes in cell size, membrane permittivity, and cytoplasm conductivity during the transition to death phase.

Natural products (NPs) play an important role in drug discovery and drug development due to their diverse chemical properties and biological activities. In the present work, an on-line capillary electrophoresis (CE) method was developed and applied to screen protein tyrosine phosphatase 1B (PTP1B) inhibitors in NPs. As a generic technique, transverse diffusion of laminar flow profiles (TDLFP) was utilized to mix all reactants in the capillary for on-line enzymatic reaction.
